I don't know who to blame more, Hillary for having been there before and still being oblivious or her staff for not filling her in.
This evening Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to receive the highest award given by Planned Parenthood Federation of America -- the Margaret Sanger Award, named for the organization's founder, a noted eugenicist. The award will be presented at a gala event in Houston, Texas.
Monsters glorifying monsters. This is akin to Mortgentaler receiving the order of Canada.

If you think you know more or are smarter than anyone working for you, you can have the greatest professionals in the world under you, but it won't do you any good.

Um, I'm not so sure this is a big deal. It seems like an honest mistake to me, really. As for her staff...does Hillary seem like someone who would have hired people who come from strong Catholic backgrounds and would know something about a holy icon in Mexico? I don't think so. Also, I know from experience that you really, really can't underestimate how little the previous and current generation knows about things religious. Really I'm amazed at some of the child-like things that pop of the mouths of my educated friends and acquaintences who are in their 20s and 30s when it comes to the Bible or religious customs and beliefs in general. I love the Monsignor's response though. "GOD." I'm actually pretty tickled that Hillary went there at all. The graces which flow from that place are unimaginable.

I'm not saying that she should have known beforehand but generally when you go to a certain place, you know a little bit of the background story. granted this was an unplanned visit, how long does it take to google it? and if you think her staff should have informed her i'm not surprised that they didnt. look at what congress does, they sign bills without even reading them. i just think that this government and the mistakes they have made already is almost laughable. its common sense. just like when Obama met with Gordon Brown. the exchange of gifts was pathetic. Brown gives us the resolute pen and pencil and a first edition of Churchill's biography, and what do we give Brown? Obama gives him 24 dvds on American History. It's embarassing and this is just another thing to add to the list. i'm getting really tired of stupid mistakes made by our government.

that wasn't supposed to be a rant but i guess it turned into one whoops

Nihil Obstat

Honestly, I find this kinda disturbing. Not entirely sure why, but I read this and just feel really really bad.

Not just being sarcastic.

Saint Therese

It is disturbing.

1- Hillary and staff have no idea of the history/culture of the country they are engaging diplomatically.

2-Hillary and staff don't care they have no idea of history/culture of the country they are engaging diplomatically.

3- They seem to have no problem with one and two.

at least she offered some flowers and commented the Virgin was beautiful. Maybe she was offered some graces from Heaven for a future conversion.

Disturbing enough that she deserves to be called "stupid" for it? Excuse me, but weren't you the one lecturing me in another thread about charity? But maybe that only applies to people who are already Catholic and/or new converts.

Exaaaaaaaactly. But don't bother trying to explain that to people who have their minds made up, clearly.
