:D :D :D

I just got my 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime figure! These are a bunch of photos of the figure, he stands at 11 inches in robot mode. He transforms into an 18-wheeler semi-truck.

Page 1: http://www.seibertron.com/toys/gallery.php...&size=0&start=0
Page 2: http://www.seibertron.com/toys/gallery.php...size=0&start=25

For those of you who are not Transformers fans, or haven't remembered the classic Generation 1 Transformers episodes that aired in the 80's... this was a classic television show. It pretty much faded away in the late 80's and early 90's. Then since the Mid-90's up till now, it has become more and more popular as time goes on with new shows being created. The last two recent shows Transformers: Robots In Disguise and Transformers: Armada both really stunk. The new one out Transformers: Energon is pretty good, but it'll never beat the classics and the controversial CGI-animated series (that were made in the 90's) Transformers: Beast Wars and Transformers: Beast Machines.

Many of the kids who grew up with the Transformers series in the 80's, are fans till this day (or have became fans again). Most of the fanbase is still dominately adult, but the child fanbase is rapidely growing because of the popularity of the Transformers shows. The reason they released this figure, and why it's labeled 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime, is the fact that the Transformers episodes first aired in the year 1984. Now since it's 2004... it's been 20 years. :D

To take the classic Generation 1 episodes that aired in the 80's for example (since many of the newer shows have different sides, and different characters). Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots, they are the good guys, while Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons, they are the bad guys.

The classic Transformers was a story of two legions of Transformers that raged war for hundreds of years on a metallic planet called Cybertron. These were HUGE robotic beings that were able to transform into different vehicles or objects. These robotic beings varied in size, some stood only 4 feet tall, while some were as tall as the World Trade Towers that existed (not including Unicron, who was as large as a planet). However, the average size was about 3 to 5 stories tall. While the Energon source (fuel, energy, etc) was running out, the Autobots and Decepticons were forced to explore (while in war) for new sources of Energon. While Optimus Prime and the remains of the Autobots went aboard their ship (which is called "The Ark" in the later series), Megatron and many of his Decepticons followed them (in their own ship of course).

To make a long story short, the Decepticons eventually board the Autobots' ship and duke it out. To make it even shorter... they accidently crash into planet Earth in the process. The Decepticon ship crashed into the sea, while the Autobot ship crashed into the side of a volcano/mountain. Both sides lay unconscience for millions of years, then later on in time in the year 1984, a probe droid searches out to find new forms for the Transformers to take form. The probe droid scans different vehicles and objects for both sides. Then soon enough, both sides awaken.

They soon discover that this planet is consumed in Energon! While the Decepticons terrorize the humans to get their beloved Energon, the Autobots take the role to protect the humans from the Decepticons, in turn of having Energon at their disposile (typo?). So... the war extends between planet Earth and Cybertron, Autobots (including the humans) vs the Decepticons.

It's a pretty cool concept, and is loved by many. And to wrap it up... Optimus Prime's personality has been agreed upon by the majority of the fanbase, as being Abraham Lincoln and John Wayne combined.

Note: Not having a good typing day, and not that patient to make such long posts.

EDIT: Optimus is latin for "one of the best, aristocrat, noble". Prime used as an adjective means "first in degree or rank; chief."

EDIT AGAIN:OH MAN, I forgot to post the details about the figure itself!

- It is in die-cast metal, not plastic!
- It weighs about 3 pounds.
- He stands about 11 inches tall in robot mode.
- It has rubber tires.
- The Autobot Matrix of Leadership glows blue/white inside his chest.
- His mouth piece moves.
- Each individual finger can be posed.
- He is extremely flexible.
- Has two comlinks on each of his arms, with their own screens.
- He comes with three weapons: energon axe, blaster cannon, and Megatron transformed in gun mode to fit in his hand.
- It's show accurate.

Many Transformers figures aren't as sophisticated (typo) as this one is (and the newer ones are in plastic), that is why it's pretty expensive for a figure. The average cost is around like $80-$120 dollars, but I got him for $63-$65 dollars (at Wal-Mart). :D

The toys are much better than the show.

Nothing will ever top the original though for both the show and the toys.

Well thats just $60 too much for me.
Paladin,

Couldn't you have used this money for more important things? Like feeding the poor, or clothing the naked...or maybe buying a talking"The Cheat" (link) plush doll? You could buy two for the same amount of money! :rolling:

"Transformers... robots in disguise."

My brother watched that all the time when we were little. I think we still have some of those toys.

Most of the Armada toys were "ok". Many of them were rather boxy, and with little flexibility. The new Energon figures look better, the show is better than Armada.

Armada was an extremely corny and horrible show that many of us TF die-hard fans frown upon. Luckily, the Generation 1 image is still used the most amongst the TF community than the newer shows.
