Cutting Your Own Hair

has anyone on here ever cut their own hair? I am in desperate need of a hair cut but I don't really want to go to a saloon and have other people play with my hair. I'm not sure if cutting it at home would be a good idea though... I'd proally chop off around 8" and do some layering or something. I'm not sure if I should try that... lol. I have trimmed my hair at home before.

For those of you who have cut your own hair- how'd it turn out? Would you recommend it? Got any tips?

I've cut my own hair a few times. If you want a fast and easy way to layer your hair, bend over, and brush it all towards the front. Cut straight across. It will automatically layer it, with the shortest layers at the top and front.

I grew up with a beauty shop on our back porch kind of like on Steel Magnolias. I started doing my dad's hair when I was a teenager. He wiggled, my mom refused to do it anymore, and my dad was too tight to pay a barber when he was married to a beautician. I finally jumped in to do it when he started looking like Albert Einstein. He did wiggle like crazy and is lucky I never cut his ear off. I always cut my boys' hair too, but military cuts with a good pair of clippers is a long way from doing a layer cut on a woman.

When my roommate kept getting bad cuts that I had to even up when she got home, she finally decided to let me experiment on her. If it was bad at least she didn't have to pay anything. It took about 2 hours because I cut it half a millimeter at a time in fear. When I lived in Florida and wore short hair, I would use the longest comb on the clippers, 2 inches I think. Now I wear my hair long, and just trim the end of my ponytail when it gets too long. I'm not sure I would try to cut it in between. I'm too big a coward. If you can set up a mirror to see the back in another mirror, that might make it easier. It's a plus if you are also able to get your hands behind your head.

Give it a shot! Just cut a little longer than the minimum length you hav ein mind in case you want to get things cleaned up. Good luck!

He is Risen!

I've been cutting my own hair for a long time. Sometimes if I want something a little more complicated I'll get someone else to do it the first time and then I will trim along their lines to maintain it. Right now, my hair is long enough that I usually wear it up in a twist so it just gets trimmed straight across. Once I used a cool whip tub with a notch cut in it for my face and tilted it forward to make a bob. Good luck!

There used to be a product that attached to a vacuum, and it slurped your hair up into it, and at the top was a spinning cutter like something from a garbage disposal. The extension tubes allowed you to get it any length you wanted. I think it was called flowbee. I knew someone that had one, and they swore by it, but I was always afraid it would pull rather than cut, and I'd end up looking like Homer Simpson.

A guy on the sailing had his left big toe accidentally cut off when he was younger... He had shoes on, too! He said when he pulled his sock off it was covered in blood and the toe just fell on the ground lol

Actually, not only is this not funny, it's highly inappropriate and condescending, completely unneccessary.

Have you ever been in a position where you struggled with that? no. idk if you know people who have, but I do. It's nothing to joke about. Maybe you think they are pathetic or emo or something. Idk. But they are persons, and persons with a lot of pain and belittle that pain is just not funny at all.
