If you take them for too long they give you other problems though; they gave me osteoporosis and liver stuff. I am not supposed to have them any more. There is a surgery for it; I had a surgeon, but they are reluctant to do it on young people, because it is disfiguring. "It will damage your self esteem" blah blah blah. I felt like saying, Mr. Surgeon Man, having a pooping disease is not a big ego boost either. I am in remission now, it really does not hurt that bad, I have a pretty normal life, its just annoying more than anything.
Prayers for you Lillabett. I too have chronic pain....feet....neurological. It's easy to feel alone and dwell on "my pain". But how fruitless and destructive even. Your posts have made me feel better. I always enjoy your posts on VS too. TY! Kathgirl

So I found this article from a few years ago in USA Today ...:edit: here's the article :/edit: ... and it says like 1 in 5 people has chronic pain. I would think its even higher than that. I think most people have something about their bodies or minds which bothers them "chronically." Anyway later in the article they talk about people who have a condition where they can't feel pain; and how difficult their lives are. There is actually a foundation called "The Gift of Pain." I think that's pretty neato. Edited March 22, 2009 by Lilllabettt

Archaeology cat
Lilllabettt, I know what you mean about having a reluctant surgeon. My orthopaedic surgeon wouldn't do my first knee operation until I was 18, which does make sense I suppose. Unfortunately it lasted 1 year, and he had to do a more invasive operation (at the age of 20), resulting in putting a screw in my leg (I'm a barometer now). He was so worried about scarring my leg, and I didn't really care as long as I didn't have the constant intense pain.
