Brother Adam

I'm looking for recommendations for a digital camera between $100-150. I want it to be able to shoot video as well as stills and have a microphone for the video. Thanks!

I have a Sony Cyber-shot (DSC-W170). I love the camera. It takes videos, has a microphone, etc.

The website says that they don't sell it anymore, but I am pretty sure that they are still in stores. I got mine for $130 around Christmas.

I love Canons. They are so user friendly and take THE BEST pictures. Here are two good ones. I have the first one - I LOVE it, but it's about thirty dollars higher than you'd like to pay. I'd say it's worth it though. The second one is good too, though.

Ditto the Canons. My older kids each have a Canon PowerShot A570 and it was really easy to figure out and is really nice to use. They can make little videos, too.

check with stores like sears, ask if there have any "wedding" cameras. often customers return a perfectly good camera after a (use for wedding) week via the stores easy return policy.
the camera is then sold at a huge discount.

I recommend a camera that can take regular batteries and not a specific shaped battery for that particular model. I can tell you from experience that it is pretty annoying when your rechargeable battery stops working and you forgot your backup or charger lol. It's much easier if you can find one that takes rechargeable double AAs but you're able to pop in Alkaline or Lithium ones if you need to.

I happen to think just the opposite. My first digital camera used AA batteries and it drove me nuts because they would drain so fast and make the camera so bulky to boot! I even used the rechargable lithium ones too! Such a pain, for me at least. I have a Kodak EasyShare M753 that has the all the features that I find useful and it is very simple to use. I got it on sale for about $100 not too long ago and it has been great. It can last a whole day in Rome taking pictures. ;)
On the Kodak site it looks like it is on clearance and about $100. So, it looks like they are discontinuing it. I like it, for what its worth. ^_^

Alkaline batteries drain very fast in a camera, Lithiums tend to last about 10x longer than alkaline. The best ones to use are NiMH rechargeable. My whole point with the AA ones is that you can walk into almost any store and buy AAs if you need them, while with the specific rechargeable ones you're extremely lucky if you can find one in a store and not have to wait a week or so for it to arrive in the mail through order. If you do happen to find one in the store more than likely it has a very minimal charge on it. And say you're traveling and you forgot your charger for the camera battery, you're pretty screwed. I worked with RadioShack for 2.5 years and faced this issue with customers about 2 or 3 times a week. They rarely were able to find their battery either at RS in store, Walmart in store, etc. So, while they might be bulkier the ease to find replacement batteries makes up for it, imho.

I have a Fuji that I am very happy with. I don't know if it does video though. I used a Minolta when I did pro photography, and thought they were going to have to pry my film camera out of my cold dead hands. I had used Fuji film for years, and was willing to give one of their cameras a try for a trip I didn't want to drag my "good" camera through airport security for. My good camera hasn't come out of the closet since. I actually feel kind of guilty about that.

Cannon.

I had a Kodak for two years and it died so I got a Cannon. My roomate and another friend have a cannon. They are excellent cameras, the quality is always superb. I upgraded from a 5.1 mexipixel to a 7.1 and I can tell the difference. The recording is pretty good too, the mic was good enough to pic up the babbling of a brook.
