Believe it or not, I don't have a problem with that idea.

Now, i'm not talking about involuntary castration, but voluntary castration (what the Czech Republic offers). would that be a moral option according to Church teachings?
Crazy, I'm watching Lie to Me right now where I guy did that... I need to check my Moral Theology source but first reaction would be no it's not moral. The ends don't justify the means.

Nihil Obstat

Rape and pedophilia are crimes committed by sick individuals. Last time I checked castration wasn't a cure for any sickness.

I can't see it solving any problems. Maybe helping... maybe not, I won't even speculate on that.

Granted not all of them are violent sex offenders, but even if only 10% are, what island are you gonna commandeer to house them? And who is gonna pay to lock them up and throw away the key?

I can think of a few ghost towns in Oklahoma we could fence them in at. With the hard clay layer at 3 feet, they couldn't even tunnel out.

I think we would need a whole county.

When things like THIS happen, I think a lot of people would be more than happy to see some castration happen--voluntary of otherwise--and would worry about the morality of it later. It's sad, but it's true.

I was going to suggest reopening Alcatraz, but it's probably not big enough.
