Freemasons are a big part of her family history and she's always talking about it and how, "It's not what people think it is..." I don't think she even knows what it is. LouisvilleFan
Well, my grandfather is an active member of the Masons and has always spoken highly of it. I admire the way he's lived his life and he is a Christian insofar as he believes in Jesus Christ being the Son of God, believes the Bible is God's Word, and when he and his wife went to church, they attended a Christian (denomination) congregation. Still, as my own beliefs have grown more firm in Catholicism, now I'm able to see the deficiencies of his beliefs and how masonry has probably influenced him to steer away from a strong Christian faith. I know he's just one example, and I have known other masons that I went to church with (before becoming Catholic) who were faithful and certainly were upstanding, respectable people, but you still have to wonder about the necessity of taking oaths and maintaining a secret society... for what godly purpose? Nihil Obstat
I always pass a Mason lodge on my way to school. They think they're so special, controlling the world and all that...
TotusTuusMaria
My great-grandfather was a Mason We had to get rid of all his mason stuff... pictures and hats and stuff. I was at dinner the other night with some friends. One of them is a much older guy and he looks up and says, "I am 33rd degree Mason." He is Catholic. I was shocked He is a fourth degree KOC and he said he joined them originally to find out how similar they are to the KOC. He said there are a lot of similarities (which made me want to ask "how did that happen"), but he said after the 3rd degree in Mason it becomes very anti-Catholic. They have plays and all where the members dress up as bishops and do and say stupid things and what-not. He wouldn't say more because he said he swore secrecy. I told him he could be excommunicated for being a Mason. He said there was a time in the Church in the early 80s where everyone was told you could be a Mason "if you knew what you were doing." He isn't a mason any longer (so he says) but he kind of told the story like "once a mason always a mason," despite that he doesn't attend their meetings and events. Anyway... made me very cautioned about the Knights now too... it is so weird. One of my younger friends is entering them and the initiation or whatever is all very hush-hush.... it just doesn't seem good.

I have no issues. Look at the papal conclave. Talk about secrecy. We trust them with our immortal souls.
