Hopefully, his ex-wife and his children with her feel the same way.
Guess that's their business, isn't it?
I have been saying Gingrich 2012 for a long time now and this makes it even better... I love this guy
Since I'm not much into following the drama of politics, I didn't know anything about Gingrich's affair until this thread. Never mind that he's way to conservative to get elected... throw the affair and broken marriage into the mix, and I have no idea why anyone would think he could even consider it. The press will love him... but not in a good way.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) converted to Catholicism on Sunday

Gingrich, who had been a Baptist, attended Sunday evening Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Capitol Hill and was confirmed into the Catholic Church that evening during a separate service.

Gingrich’s wife, Calista, is Catholic.
I understand that. But I also understand what an incredible kick in the face it must be for the offended wife who was publicly shamed by him and then deserted by him to hear he married his lover and then found Jesus with her. Unfortunately, public scandal leaves a lot of humiliation and broken hearts that are not mended by the offender's private conversion.
I understand your sympathy for them, but really -- what do you or anyone else have to gain by bringing it up on here? Unless you know his family personally or if they've gone public in recent times about the whole thing, it's not in anyone else's place to speculate how they feel on the matter or even be discussing it.

No doubt that the consequences of our actions still remain even when forgiven and reconciled, such is the case with Gingrich. But how he "pays his dues" is up to him, his family and God, whether in this life or the next. No doubt he'll have to pay his dues. We all do.

But if he's trying to get on the right path, no better way than becoming in full communion with the Church. I haven't always been all that big on ol' Newty but I wish him and his entire family well and hope they all find peace.

Yes. I have always had great sympathy for his first wife and children... and for all the wronged wives who have been publicly humiliated by their cheating husbands. I'm not sure how in the world I could cope with such public humiliation and hurt.

But at this point, today, in 2009, Gingrich had two choices-- stay on the wrong path or get on the right one. (Going back in time and never having wronged his wife was not an option today.)

I am sure that this is difficult for the first Mrs. Gingrich, but I hope that somehow they are able to reconcile, forgive and move on.

 • 2 years later...

Just read this article on Newt:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/27/newt-gingrich-catholic_n_854562.html

Excerpt:
"The depth of faith and history contained in the life of the Catholic Church were increasingly apparent to me," Gingrich said Wednesday. "Slowly, over a decade, the centrality of the Eucharist in the Catholic Mass became more and more obvious to me."
I know he has a real shady past, but if he decides to run for President, it should be interesting...

Oh, also, Newt Gingrich and his wife also produced a documentary on JP2 which they've been screening recently:

Nihil Obstat

Some of the blogs linked on NewAdvent.org are very suspicious of his conversion and are not prepared to lend him any form of support.

I hope that he has and that it's genuine. I think that it would do him much good. I mean, as cruel as I have been at times, I could never stomach the thought of leaving my wife as she's having breast cancer treatment. Somebody that could do that, def needs the Catholic Church. :amen:
