Newt Gingrich Becoming Catholic

So he can marry the choir singer from the Basilica in DC that he was having an affair with while married?

I hadn't read the article--so I see he did already marry her. Any mention that he carried on a public and scandalous adulterous affair with her? So he's going to convert now make an honest woman out of her or something?

That situation has been resolved. Since they are both going to be practicing Catholics I imagine confession has been involved. We are all sinners and most of us have serious sins in our past. When God forgives our sins, He forgets them.

Does he have a chance?[/quote]

Seriously? I have a better chance of being elected President.

He's way to tied up in the conservative bubble to get elected. Bush got away with it, by barely winning two elections.

I thought I read something once about being sinless and casting the first stone or something...maybe I was imagining things.
If he's converting, I presume he's making a confession. I presume any sort of affair would come up in said confession, and consider me naïve, but I tend to believe people when they say that they've repented, and don't intend to commit a sin any more. That's just me. :idontknow:
Now if he were to go on having affairs, that would be a different story. In the mean time, I'll believe his intentions are good and honest.
And, just to state, the same would go for Obama or Clinton were to change their ways and convert, or if Pelosi or the Kennedys or Biden were to publicly renounce their views and go to confession.

That matter of that business is up to the Priest. If he is making steps toward becoming Catholic then one must give him the benefit of the doubt that he has had some type of conversion and has sought guidance from a Priest/Deacon. The fact of the matter is this is business between the woman, the priest, and himself (and God of course). Everyone has done things they are not proud of in their past. We should be glad for him that he seems to be making steps in the right direction toward his eternal salvation. The Angels in Heaven rejoice for the repentant sinner.

I'll do my best to try and vote for him too.

thanks for posting; its always nice to see conversions. And I agree, it often appears that converts hold more to the faith than craddle catholics; sad but true.

Those who read the entire article would notice at the end there is a statement about any hindrances to Newt become Catholic had be taken care of.

Hopefully, his ex-wife and his children with her feel the same way.

I understand that. But I also understand what an incredible kick in the face it must be for the offended wife who was publicly shamed by him and then deserted by him to hear he married his lover and then found Jesus with her. Unfortunately, public scandal leaves a lot of humiliation and broken hearts that are not mended by the offender's private conversion.

Luckily it isn't up to them...

I happen to know [really well] the priest who brought Newt into the Church and I'm pretty sure he's well aware of everything in his past. I think this is something he's put behind him and has turned from his old ways.

I have met the Gingriches and see them often enough...I'm not sure he's still the same person everyone thinks he is. I think he has undergone true conversion.

But then again, I might not know very much about the situation...

Seriously?

May God forbid that my sins or yours might meet with the same judgement and lack of charity.
