"Thérèse" the 1986 Film (which is basically the filiming of the stage-play, ) by Alain Cavalier
one need know Therese Life to follow the film..and of course its in French. what i do like is how the actress looks like here when she was young.
The life of little St. Therese of Lisieux, depicted in minimalist vignettes. Therese and her sisters are all nuns in a Carmelite convent. Her devotion to Jesus and her concept of "the little way" to God are shown clearly, using plain modern language. A sense of angelic simplicity comes across without fancy lights, choirs, or showy miracles

The one that was made in 2004 is also worth watching! I enjoyed that so much, even if it was overly dramatic. It's how Therese drew me to Carmel. :D

Saint Therese

No offense, but I disagree with both of your comments.
The older film is really bizarre and the new one is just really poorly made. IMO.
I would love to see a well made film about St. Therese, to whom I am devoted.

I know the girl who played Therese in that movie! She's the wife of our youth minister at my parish. :)

St. Luke Productions really does wonderful work. It's nice to have a reliable place for Catholic actors/movie people. I thought the story of how Lindsay Younce got cast for the movie was pretty cool :)

That's ok. I have never seen the first one, but I've seen parts of it and didn't like it at all. I've also seen little bits and pieces of the "Miracle of St. Therese" which I thought was boring as a stump. I think some of the problem with a lot of Catholic movies is that they tend to overdramatize. I have tried to watch several, including "Maria Goretti", "Teresa of Avila", "Rita", etc. The only ones that I have watched and liked were "Clare and Francis", "Padre Pio: Miracle Man", and "Therese." "Therese" (2004) was a little too syrupy for me, but I love the story behind it. I eventually read all of "Story of a Soul", and was glad I did. I lent the "Therese" movie to my priest for him to watch because he loves St. Therese, but he disliked the movie. I understand why. I might think the same thing had it not been what changed my perspective on life and helped me understand my calling to Carmel. :D

True, here is no really good and decent film yet, made of Little Therese, just either artsy MINIMALIST/realist Euro interpretations or schmaltzy-idealized American ones, but thats the nature of film, unless you end up with a documentary! the same could be said of the 4 movies on St. Francis, all 4 together , but none on its own, capture a fuller 'picture' of the man, the Saint. its a difficult thing to do, to please everyones ideas and images , while being historically accurate..and personally interpretive..

I had a spiritual director for about a minute! She told me she didn't "get" St. Therese or her parents - that was enough for me! I love The Little Flower! And these movies!!!!!!

I agree with all the comments made of the movies in this post. I think that Teresa of the Andes that was made in 1989 is by far the best. It was done very simply, the acting was superb and St. Teresa's life and her teaching came accross extremely well.

I saw that on EWTN

As for the other movies I have them on DVD, I still like watching the newer one of Therese.

I think it was so beautiful how she converted to Catholicism from Quaker. :D In an interview I read, she stated how many have said that it was "quite a leap." :saint:
