Lil Red
+J.M.J.+ from HotAir: Exit question: Why is it that Hollywood’s ability to influence the culture is not only acknowledged but celebrated by the industry when that influence is salutary, but denied and dismissed as conservative scapegoating when it isn’t, e.g., in glamorizing violence and teen promiscuity? good question. track2004
He just won an Oscar. If he doesn't matter and his opinion doesn't matter don't talk about it. Also remember to be better than the crazy Westboro Church people outside the Oscars last night because they def aren't giving a good name to your side. Sometimes I am glad I moved away from that State.
Honestly, I don't know why they were protesting him being nominated for an Oscar for portraying a gay man, though. It does bother me that people who disagree with homosexuality as a lifestyle are labeled as "haters"-I don't know how to move beyond this rhetoric though. It's a tough issue for me as sometimes there are so many people around me, loved ones, friends, who are gay, who are wonderful people and I wonder why it can't be accepted. But then, I also see why homosexual activity isn't part of God's plan for humanity and sexuality. But I certainly don't hate anyone. -Katie Edited February 24, 2009 by Tinkerlina

How he spoke up for Sr. Helen Prejean, and helped bring her to mainstream? As for those of you who hate Sean Penn and homosexuals, I'd really suggest you dive back into your Bible. It's you that give good Catholics a bad name. As Catholics we've been called to help our fellow man whether we agree with their actions or not. As for Gay Catholics, they're called to live their Catholic faith at a harder and more difficult level. Rather then make fun of them, why not get to know some of them, and put on a pair of their shoes and see how you can help them.

Maybe you could start over with an apology and actually read the thread again. Last I checked thinking Sean Penn is a lousy actor is not homophobia. I'm honestly not really sure how to help gay people, though. I pray for the people that I know who are gay, that they will find the path God wants for them. But beyond that, I don't want to be personally critical of individuals 1:1. I don't know any gay people who identify as Catholics, myself, most of them left the church or were not religious in the first place. -Katie Edited February 24, 2009 by Tinkerlina
As for those of you who hate Sean Penn and homosexuals, I'd really suggest you dive back into your Bible.
Where has anyone on this thread said anything hateful towards homosexuals? I believe that an apology is in order here.
It's you that give good Catholics a bad name.
I'd probably say the same thing about people like you who jump to conclusions and need to develop rudimentary reading comprehension.
As Catholics we've been called to help our fellow man whether we agree with their actions or not.
Yes. You're not helping--you're hurting.
As for Gay Catholics, they're called to live their Catholic faith at a harder and more difficult level. Simply having a sexual ethics in which homosexuality is deemed morally wrong is a personal decision. However trying to use state law to block people from leading meaningful lives and having the same opertunities and rights as other Americans is wrong and I do think that those who voted against it should take a look at themselves in the mirror. If you beleive that inter racial marriage is wrong that is fine, but please don't intrude into the lives of inter racial couples and block them from getting married. I'm allowed to not like a man's acting without having an alternative agenda, despite what you apparently feel. Also as a Baptist, I imagine I would give Catholics a bad name.
