That "intending to do as the Church does" is required of the baptizer. Thus Protestant baptisms (done in the proper formula) are valid.
MithLuin
People do get angry when they get fired, which explains why they seek out legal redress....but seriously? There is not going to be any legal issue here. Apparently, the invalid baptism complaint goes back to 2004. This church does seem to do a lot of outreach work, and as far as I can tell, there is no reason that can't continue once they get rid of this guy. At the end of the day, he doesn't own his parish - the diocese does. He doesn't make the rules on what makes baptism valid - the Vatican does. He really wants to be schismatic but just call himself Catholic for some reason. Really strange.
Didacus
[snip] There had better not be any legal grounds for this, it would destroy the Church.
No, it wouldn't. Those who are faithful will remain faithful and the Church would live on. Even if we met every Sunday in the basement of our homes, the Church would live on. Aloysius
I mean the structure of the Church, ie any priest could defy his bishop and then sue to keep his job. but you're right, the Church would obviously survive even in this type of persecution. Nihil Obstat
Sets a nasty precedent if the state decides that they're permitted to interfere though... I don't think it'll happen, but then again, stranger things have happened.
