It's sad to see so many think that it's okay to reduce the mass to a campfire sing-along-feel-good-time with the intention of making everything "fun" and materially attractive. These people forget the original intention of mass....and it's not about being entertained. ---------------- Listening to: Lifehouse - You And Me via FoxyTunes
I've done campfire masses .....at camp. They are not appropriate anywhere else. Standing in a valley in the Appalachian Mountains with 200 reverant catholic girl scouts singing Alleluia or Dona Nobis Pacem in harmony however, is not a bad thing, and a far cry from the stuff going on in many a church today. I'm scared to go to college now.
It is pretty scary, but just remember that things are easier in the dorm if you are reasonably flexible but upfront from the get-go. Learn the intervisitation policy of your college/university and make sure that you are comfortable with that. I purposely chose a Catholic university that did not have coed dorms. Even then...ya gotta stick to your guns respectfully and consistently. This has definitely become a horror stories thread and I'm just glad I haven't happened on the blatant rudeness that some of you have experienced. No matter where you go in life, you are going to run across Catholics who have given way to hedonistic or pseudo-hedonistic lifestyles. I have acquaintances who are openly living together off campus but accuse the more orthodox persons here of being Manichean. Personally, I'm a big fan of the human body, matrimony, and procreation...so I don't know where they got that. why is there no baby emoticon??? LouisvilleFan
why is there no baby emoticon???
It's part of the marriage emoticon, of course. I did just fine at a public university. That riff raff happens on every college/university campus even the "good" ones. It may be more discrete at the better Catholic and Christian colleges, but the inclination to sin is everywhere. Of course, at public (and most Catholic) universities, your presence among non-Christians and fallen away Christians can be a great witness. Public universities are some of the most exciting and fertile fields for evangelization in our country, maybe even the whole world, because here you can preach the Gospel to people who could legally have you killed for doing the same thing in their home country.
