Eagle, not half as awkward as how he would throw his used condoms on the floor. Stepped on one barefoot once. :vomit:

I lived less than 40 feet from the Newman Center and never went in. It was never open except for weekends when I wasn't on campus; not that I missed much according to my RA. He came back excited once that the priest told him to get drunk.

Yeah, that beats my story. Yuck!

Wow. That can't be good.

Well, the Newman center where I am has weekly activities and is fairly well run. It is open most of the time.....although I have not exactly gone there during weird hours.
Oh, and of course this guy is "Catholic." He only disagrees with the Church on being required to go to mass weekly, abortion is okay when their is no brain waves, and he is okay with contraception, stem cells, homosexuality, and I am probably missing something else. And sadly, he sees this as no big deal. Sorry but had to rant a bit.

Oh, and to complicate this and make my roommate hate me even more, he recently came up with a 5 page paper on how the Bible was neutral on homosexuality  He posted it in Facebook (hint, hint) and I have responded. It wasn't hard to refute. So far he hasn't said anything to me about my comments but I know he has seen them. I overheard his girlfriend telling him he needs to make his case stronger.

Reminds me of high school. My best friend was going to have a part to celebrate her seventeenth birthday and she wanted to watch Brokeback Mountain and she asked if I had seen it and if I wanted to at the party and I said to both questions. Then for days she, another friend, and an aquiantance of ours kept discussing the homosexual life style and I did what I could to try to convince them of the church's teaching on the matter. (This was at a catholic high school by the way.) Unfortunately, I couldn't get through to them. I've also had conversations with friends who were semi for abortion and suicide under certain circumstances. I've also been the only one in the group of my friends that actually wanted to have reverent school masses.

I like the song. Some of the lyrics remind me of my conversion from being a luke-warm catholic to a devout catholic and the love story between Our Lord and I.

...everyone young seems to want campfire masses. :camp: :guitar: <_<

It's sad to see so many think that it's okay to reduce the mass to a campfire sing-along-feel-good-time with the intention of making everything "fun" and materially attractive.

These people forget the original intention of mass....and it's not about being entertained.

The experience that I had in my high school was mass in a gymn. Most of the time I was in the bleachers. Most of the time unless we had a guest or multiple guest priests we didn't even have an actual homily but a lame goofy skit that a couple of times got to be inappropriate. Apparentally making teens laugh at lame skits with superficial messages at mass is how you evangelize them. Shockingly no one ever converted. :bigshock: My classmates would just laugh and think that this was all just some big joke not to be taken seriously.

I remember when some speaker came to my high school came and at the end of his talk he spoke about the beauty of the miraculous medal and it's message. He then said that he was offering them for free to us and practically everybody got up and enthusiastically grabbed one. It really surprised me. I had never seen my classmates, let alone such a large number have such a response. Oh the excitement that they had! Sometime later I realized that it was because they had been given what they had not beforehand--the truth. The speaker didn't talk down to us about it, try to sound hip, or give us lame entertainment, he gave us truth and beauty for that matter. That's what the youth really want.

We had mass in our school cafeteria for two years while we attempted to rebuild our burnt out church. It was always a real mass done with as much reverence as we could muster. Even when we had it in the parking lot, it was sacred. The place doesn't matter so long as the people understand why they are there, and what they are taking part in.
Only Catholic Church in town. 4 Masses each weekend. I am familiar with the average attendance of 3 of them. I doubt I'll find the other 850 at the other mass. At most, the Saturday could reasonably get 150 college students. However, the popularized "student mass" is Sunday at 7 PM. Still the numbers don't say a lot.
For college aged Catholics and Christians in general... that's not so bad. Maybe they're just waiting for someone to invite them.

I must say that handling the situation by telling your roommate of your concerns right away was the wisest thing you could have done. We are often shocked/surprised by someone's behavior when we live with them, but if we don't share that with them, they have no reason to change, and the situation just gets worse.

At least now that you've said something, he knows what is expected. If he wants her to sleep over, he'd at least have to talk to you first. (Though you made it clear that you'd say no if you were going to be there.)

In a dorm room, there's really not much of a place to hang out. I mean, you can sit on desk chairs or the bed, usually. So, while it might really weird you out that they are getting into bed together, they might not see it as anything more than just hanging out. Maybe.

You can ask your RA what the rules are, but most secular colleges do have rules about overnight guests - and it forbids them. They don't want non-paying people sleeping in your room either, it turns out ;). Now, I don't know if your school has that rule, but if it does, they aren't going to enforce it in the case of bf/gf staying over. That rule is there specifically so that if a roommate complains, something can be done about it (since you are paying for the room too). You shouldn't have to be sexiled from your own room.

Of course, my roommate and I in college had a pullout sofa, so having overnight guests was fine with us....but we always talked to each other about it first! Having a bf from out of town sleep on the couch was no big deal to either of us. But, we were really good friends, so we certainly wanted to respect each other.
