Lounge Daddy
What do yo you mean the government dtv program is a Statist ploy for money and power and influence over the dumb-masses? (Be careful how you pronounce that last word.)

jeffpugh
from the comments on the article:
"After three years of preparation, ... diligent consumers who were trying to get the coupons six weeks before the February 17th transition " Excuse me, but the preparations were underway for 3 years, TV stations were running advertisements and special announcements for a year, and these people waited until six weeks before to ask for their coupons? Doesn't sound like the government did a poor job of preparing here. Posted by: wiredog | Feb 20, 2009 11:47:57 AM $40 vouchers is plenty.. Sure converter boxes cost more, but TV is a luxury not a constitutional right. Posted by: evil_pete | Feb 20, 2009 11:52:33 AM
Amen. Theologian in Training
I think this pretty much sums it up. It is the bailout explained, probably the most sense I have ever heard with this regard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q52peCKBLLQ

cmotherofpirl
The government didn't realize that people who already had cable were going to buy them as well, in case the cable ever went out, so they didn't appropriate enough money to start the program. However, people in rural areas, or many small towns will be out of luck, many are way too far out to get any signal. If your signal is under 60 you lose the station. In addition, everytime the wind blows the signal breaks up, even if you are in excellent range. The best tuner out there is the DR-40 DTV box which is $40 online, you simply give them the coupon number and you pay the $8 shipping charge. And, for those who more rebellious types, there are torrents galore!
