Tpotc As The Liturgy Of The Mass

There is probably more than this, but this is what I noticed upon my second viewing:

1) Pontius washes his hands (flashback of Jesus washing his hands at the Last Supper) - The Priest washes his hands before the Eucharistic Prayer.

2) At the top of Golgotha Mary, Mary, and John fall to their knees - At Mass the congregation falls to their knees during the Eucharistic Prayer.

3) Jesus' clothes are removed (flashback of Jesus uncovering the bread at the Last Supper)

4) Jesus is nailed to the cross and the cross is raised up. The whole time the music is building up as if something major is happening (we see flashbacks of the offering of the body and blood of Christ at the Last Supper). You can see in the eyes of Mary, Mary, and John that they are putting the pieces together - The Priest raises the consecrated Body and Blood.

5) Mary, Mary, and John rise to their feet - The Congregation rises to their feet to receive the Body and Blood.

6) Mary kisses Jesus' feet and you can see The Precious Blood on her lips - The Congregation receives the Body and Blood of Jesus.

7) Satan cries out in defeat - Satan cries out in defeat.

Anyone else want to add to this?

I was struck by how much this movie follows the mass on that second viewing. I couldn't believe what I was seeing staring at the screen. Everyone involved with this film did an amazing job.

How about:

Pilate's assistant pours wine into a chalice - Deacon prepares the gift for the celebrant

Uncovering the bread - celebrant takes off the cloth covering the paten and the chalice

Mary wipes Jesus' blood with the white cloths - The priest cleans the sacred vessels with the purificator. Any spillage of the sacred blood is cleaned up with the purificator.

i do not know if i would get it on video...i fear watching it too much and letting it become just a movie..kind of like become inmune to it, as we become immune to poverty and violence..

another cool thing is the flipping of the Cross...it levitates!!! very subtle...this comes from the writings of the mystique that Mel G. used, and it symbolizes the Divinity of Jesus...also when Marry cleans the blood from the scourging grounds.

How about this one:
Mary MAgdalene put her veil on when she approached the Cross : Women wear headcoverings at Mass (some still do).

That is some great insite!! Another thought I had after seeing the movie yesterday, March 21, for the second time, is the washing of the feet. When Jesus was being scourged at the pillar He looked tenderly, at the soldier's sandaled feet spattered with His holy blood and remembered washing the apostles feet.

I think its holy Thursday where we will do that at our local Church. Jesus even loved those who beat and cursed Him.

Great thread!

Awesome Duketoma and L5!! Thank you! PopePiusXalso pointed out the Mary Magdalene's veil --that I had actually thought about. How come I didn't notice the cross levitating??? :o
I have to see it again!

I was curious about the cross, but I don't know if I would have called it "levitating." They flip him over, where you just see his upper body, but none of it is on the ground, so his whole upper body/upper portion of cross is not touching the ground. They don't show the lower half.

I dunno...there were no reactions from the people, though, to hint of levitation. Wouldn't that have at lease scared some people or something?

Yup. I believe this comes from the visions of Ven. Maria. He used her visions along with Ven. Anne and the Gospels.

I think they were going to turn the Cross over to secure the nails. Mary, Christ's mother, prayed that He wouldn't suffer the smashing, and angels held Him up.
