mcts
i have attended a church nearby a few times lately because of some different issues i'm not going to get into right now, but something has bugged me every time i went there. instead of the priest saying "the mass has ended let us go in peace to love and to serve the lord" the congregation says "the mass never ends! it must be lived! so let us go forth to love and serve the lord!" is that even allowed? Thy Geekdom Come
No priest has the authority to change the Mass and the laity have a right to receive the liturgy as it is meant to be. The particular abuse you speak of is unfortunately common; while theologically it makes some sense (the Mass has already been "lived" in the Mass itself, but the meaning is more poetic, that the Church is sent out to carry out the work of salvation in the world), it is not permitted because it defies centuries of tradition and the authority of the Church itself. However, it is also a relatively minor liturgical abuse; it doesn't change the validity of Mass (Jesus is still present in the Eucharist). That having been said, it's up to you whether or not you want to bring up your concern to the priest. Most likely, he's already heard your complaint from others. God bless, Micah
