cmotherofpirl
Its probably a lame question but does your church offer fish fry during the fridays of Lent? My friends daughter moved to NYC and her new church never heard of it.
stlmom
Yes, we have had fish fries during Lent at my parish for as long as I have belonged to it--almost 25 years--funny thing is that several other churches in my neighborhood--Lutheran and Baptist--have also started fish fries during Lent in recent years--haven't decided if it's about fundraising or spirituality for them. Our diocese offers an 8 -page guide to all the participating parishes.

CatherineM
We don't do fish. We do what they call lenten meals that are like bean soup or lentil soup and bread. The money for it is donated to one of the homeless shelters.

Madame Vengier
No, but it sounds awesome. I love fish--any fish at all will do--and almost anything else that comes from the ocean and sea.

Is this Church traditional thing?[/quote] It is here. We have about 90 parishes in our diocese having fish fries this year. Its usually in the parish hall every friday in Lent and whatever organization that does the work usually gets the money for some church project. Families come in from 4p-7p, order supper and eat at the large tables. Its a very social event. Some people call ahead and simply pick up their supper, some parishes deliver to shut-ins as well.
