Also, I actually agree with everything Madam V has ever said. :detective:

I am not surprised. You are always lying about things... I mean, who really IS Hassan?

Hassan is the counterpoing to Ahmed in Mesa Selimovic's magnum opus Death and the Deverish. He enters into the story when his sister visits Ahmed to get him to persuade him to convince their father the write Hassan out of his will after disgracing himself by leaving Al Azhar university and taking up drinking, gambling, and marries a Catholic women (whom he settles generously with in the divorce). Ahmed agrees to go along in order to use her relation with the local Mufti to have his brother freed from prison.

Ultimatly Hassan is the life embracing character to Ahmed's stocism and hesitancy.

I don't drink or gamble and you're the one pushing for the divorce.

The ironic thing is I read the book years ago and never got the message about marying a Catholic woman

While your doing that please save the posts in the thread about the foster mother of the Muslim girl. I am actually in partial agreement with MadamV and that's prolly never going to happen again. :ohno:

No, she's not portrayed badly. But by marying her Hassan sets off a chain reaction that leads to his own destruction and the utter moral corruption of his friend (Ahmed).

Amazing how Selimovic could predict the future like that, huh :saint:

Also, Selimovic was an atheist
