Mr.Cat
http://www.ourladyofamerica.com
Our Lady of America Our Lady of America is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary which has received recognition from the Roman Catholic Church by the Archbishop of St. Louis, Raymond Burke who wrote that approbation for this devotion was granted by Paul Francis Leibold, Archbishop of Cincinnati, in 1959. In 1938, Sister Mary Ephrem began to have what seemed like mystical spiritual experiences. What the Church considers to be the central messages of Our Lady of America took place between September 25, 1956 and November 15, 1956 in the Our Lady Mother of Mercy Chapel in Rome City, Indiana (now known as Sylvan Springs). According to her diary, as these visits took on the nature of a specific program of devotion to Mary which Sister was asked to propagate, she then turned to Monsignor Paul F. Leibold. Monsignor Leibold, later Archbishop of the Cincinnati, Ohio Archdiocese, would be her spiritual director for many years until 1972, when he suddenly died due to an aneurysm. Archbishop Leibold had become so convinced of the authenticity of this message that he approved Sister's writings and placed his imprimatur on the design of the medal. Our Lady had asked Sister to have struck a medal that would bear the image of Our Lady of America on the front and the symbol of the Christian Family and the Blessed Trinity on the back.
I have been thinking about this supposed apparition for some time now, its drifted in and out of my thoughts. There is a more detailed version of the supposed apparitions on the main website. My personal opinions concerning this supposed apparition thus far has been sympathetic. Any thoughts, concerns, objections, comments, or opinions are welcomed; respectfully those opinions from competent Catholics is preferred. I've always been partial to Our Lady of Lourdes, but OLA would certainly be my new favourite.

Giolla
Now I love our Mother and I love our country, but I had a question anyone else find it ironic that the Immaculate Conception is the Patron of the USA? I don't question it but it is historically ironic.

Madame Vengier
I am extremely suspicious of "apparitions".
johnnydigit
i see approval from the local bishop, but not anything official as far as from Rome?
I am extremely suspicious of "apparitions".
once an apparition is officially approved by the Church, all my suspicions are cast away. any doubt is due to the lack of research i have done. that is the Church's role, to guarantee us, the faithful, that something is free from error, and that we can trust it is safe for devotion, a decision guided by the Holy Spirit, directly from God Himself. you can choose to not follow any of the optional devotions or wonder about an apparition, but you are called as a Catholic to obey and trust in Her as a teaching authority above all else. i think this would include not leading others away or casting doubt in any of Her official teachings. I know she expresses her pleasure in the basalica (that was then) being constructed in her honor.
johnnydigit
hm i always thought Our Lady Of Guadalupe was the patron of the USA, but specifically it says, "Patroness of the Americas". afaik "Americas" includes North and South America.. http://www.catholictradition.org/Mary/conception.htm In 1847 the Bishops of the United States requested permission from the Holy Father, Pope Pius IX, to declare the Blessed Virgin Mary as patroness of the United States under the title of "The Immaculate Conception." RemnantRules
I think I was reading this a while back and Mary wanted to be put above the altar in the Basilica in DC and if this happen, many signs would be granted. I could be off on that. I do know the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament (Mother Angelica's church) has a statue of O.L.A. in their building.
