Dust's Sister
I have a $20,000 school loan bill and about $20,000 in credit card bills and I'm about to be 27 in February. Is anyone else in as bad shape as me? (And I don't own a home). This thread is to just kind of say to myself... "Hey, I'm not the only one!" Archaeology cat
Oh goodness you're not the only one! I have a little under $3000 in credit card debt (hoping to get that taken care of before too long), and we have an insane amount in school loans. Mine alone are over $20,000, and then there are my husband's on top of that. Oh, and we'll both be 27 soon, too.

Spamity Calamity
Me an my woman's debt combined are 60.000 in student loans, 4,000 left on a car. 8,500 in credit card debt, and a 130,000 mortgage. It was actually worse, we have started using this method called the "Debt Snowball" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debt-snowball_method and so far we have already completely eliminated three credit cards! Yall should look into it.
let_go_let_God
I have $63,000 dollars in school debt (yay 4 years at a private college) and only $800 on my credit card. Hoping I get a job I'm being interviewed for next week. It would give me a little more to pay on my bills. God bless- LGLG

walburga
I've mad the decision to enter the monastery 13 years ago, while I was still in graduate school, but couldn't because of debt. At age 28 I had about $150,000 in debt, $140,000 in student loans. I've been working as a teacher for nine years. Six months ago my total debt was $122,000. I don't own a home, I don't have car payments. I have only one change of clothes and eat very simply. I recorded a CD, which I've been selling since October (search In Perfect Charity at cdbaby.com) and I've been working with the Laboure Society. I even did a Pizza Hut night! My debt is now $80,000. At the end of the year, I'm using my retirement to help pay my loan. After selling all the Cd's, plus the Marian cd that is coming out in the spring, I think I will still be $40,000 short. I don't know where it's going to come from, but I think we'll come up with it somehow. After 13 years of waiting and hard work, and thanks to the generosity of my family and benefactors, I will FINALLY be able to enter the monastery. So, no, you are not alone... TeresaBenedicta
I'm not exactly sure where I'm at right now, but probably around $30,000 (unless my parents have been very kind in helping pay off the student loans I have right now). I'm incurring $20,000 of debt every year I'm in university. But, I've decided to graduate a year early, so my final debt will be around $50,000. I'm 20 years old. What scares me the most is that if I were to discern that religious life is something I'm called to, which is where I'm leaning right now, I don't know how I'll ever be able to enter. And I really feel called to doing some mission work after graduation, but that may not be possible considering that I really need to start working on getting rid of this debt. T-Bone _
I have student loan debt. But nothing else. I am going to start looking for a house pretty soon.
littleflower+JMJ
I have college loans...large ones actually. But that is because I also went to grad school. However, while it is pretty scary, I actually don't have to pay them back. In Texas, if you are a teacher you get them all paid off. I have to take care of my credit card bills but I plan on getting them out of the way this year. If you haven't heard of Dave Ramsey, I recommend him to everyone!!! CatherineM
When I was 27, I owed $10,000 in school loans, $10,000 on a car, and $40,000 on my house, and all my spare money went to clothes not to my debt. My husband had $50,000 in school loans. Now we are both 46, the school loans are gone, the credit cards are gone, and we are hoping to pay off our mortgage by the end of the year. It will get better. You've made an investment in yourself, the best investment that you can make. The key is that no matter what job you take, at whatever income you can get, just live below that. I know that is easier said than done, but you would be surprised at what you can get along without when you have to. Don't focus on the negative side of the equation, because that will just weigh you down. Focus only on the positive side, and an employer who needs a good worker is going to snatch you up. Thank you for sharing this - it's encouraging to this God willing future nun to read about how you've got through that. Yes, I'm in debt too. Student loans from the UK.
