I never minded having them but my friend also had one at work and had a seizure from it one time. -Katie Edited February 1, 2009 by Tinkerlina
Mari Therese
I had to have a TB test in order to be able to go to school. The doctor didn't give me a cotton ball, so by the time I left is office I had blood running down my arm.
Nihil Obstat
I guess more or less the same age. I know we're the same grade though Hm Chemistry major. That's going to be some work there. Hope it works out for you. I don't think I've heard of Calgary, is it a good school? I'm going to be going to a community college for a few sememsters just to finish what I've already started, from there I hope to transfer to USC or someplace like that.
UofC? It's a good school. Technically the only university in Calgary (but there's a college that should be one), and it's definitely well regarded. Very good research going on, especially in medicine, and it's got a lot of ties to the oil and gas industry due to its location. Besides that it takes me five minutes to get there from my house, so I don't need to leave home yet.
Hey. I majored in Chemistry. It is a lot of work, but you can do it. Just don't expect to have much of a social life. I can remember those long, sleepless nights in the dorm lounge working on lab reports ... we had two a week, and they took about 12-15 hours per. One time, I got back in bad at 6AM, and my music major roommate's alarm clock went off right as I was crawling into bed. I looked over at him and told him, "Your turn." We both had a good laugh at that one. So get ready .... You ought to do great at Orgo if you're looking to get into medicine. Biochem, too. Analytical chem and P Chem if you like math (P Chem, at least second semester, is a lot of calc II, diff eq, and quantum mechanics, though). But, being a high school chem teacher, my favorite will always be plain-old general chemistry ... Best o' luck, bro. Let me know if you need anything. I think I still have my P Chem and instrumental analysis texts lying around at my parents' if you're interested. My gen chem book, sorry, but I want to keep it as it's still useful to me in my teaching.
Ah yea, I've sorta resigned myself to not having a great social life for the next ten years or so. I'm definitely interested in organic chem and biochem. Math isn't my strongest subject, so I want to do as little as I need to do to get by. I'll have grade twelve Bio as well going into it, and Math 31 (beginner calculus) so I'll be in fairly good shape prereq. wise. No grade twelve physics though. I've heard labs can be a killer. On the other hand, a few people I've talked to liked labs more than anything. We'll see how it all works out.
rose wrought of iron
I wish I could be in the blood drive that they're organizing in my school's chem lab in a month, but I know that would make me pass out. Even more embarrassing at school with all my friends, I'm thinking.
I have a friend who is terrified of needles, but my calculus teacher (who is also in the stuco advisor and was helping with the blood drive) said that the class that had the most donors (you could pull random people in too) would get a free day, and there was also a lot of peer pressure involved. I was SO proud of him; not only did he give blood, he gave double red! Granted, I was right there the entire time keeping him distracted... which I must say, was a task I particularly enjoyed ...and then he returned the favor... But there is hope! rose wrought of iron
Okey-dokey! But for the needles, good luck; I myself am slightly uneasy about them... it's just the going in - after that, I can stare at them all I want, but watching them go in is slightly disturbing.
