lost_in_this_world
so I am a college junior and i do understand how valuable differing opinions can be and I enjoy talking with someone who disagrees with me. but one of my teachers is driving me crazy! she is one of the Americans that kind of acts like Obama is the new messiah. Its just really hard to here it every other day when it really has nothing to do with the class. Im not saying I loved Bush but I don't hate him like a lot of people. And she rags on him a lot. On the inauguration day, she mentioned how she has woken up for eight years wondering if the Bush nightmare was over and now shes so excited. and today we were talking about the civil rights movement (which doesnt belong in this class at all) and how Bush justified terrorism. and its just crazy and annoying to hear it day after day and i think she has crossed a line. Not only does the class not teach what it is supposed to (the title of the class is Food and Culture) and we have barely spoken about food! I just think her personal political opinions have gone too far. and im sure I will probably speak to her about it. I'm sure she doesnt see anything wrong with it because everyone else in the class agrees with her. except me (of course). the thing that really gets me is how she speaks about him caring for families and the american people. i find this almost amusing because of his pro-abortion stance. he is for the american family but yet wants to take away all of the laws governing abortions and even fund them nationally and internationally. im sure it would create quite the stir if i mentioned this one in class. Im not trying to rag on my teacher but i feel like she has no perimeters for the class and she sometimes makes it only okay to speak if you agree with her. i dont know. it just kinda smells of elderberries to sit there and listen to her praise Obama day after day. CatherineM
You might get more bites in Open Mic. I'm dealing with this kind of worshiping all over the place here. People who absolutely know nothing about Obama talking like he is the second coming of Kennedy or Abraham Lincoln. I educate when I can, and bite my lip when I can't. eagle_eye222001
I dropped a class because the professor kept finding ways to ridicule the Bible and Christianity in general. The class was mostly made of atheists so he was preaching to a choir of believers. Or rather non-believers. Anyway it was me and this other Christian girl that attempted to defend the Bible and Christianity but its impossible to do when the proff just repeatedly ignores your comments and controls what is debated. ---------------- Now playing: Michael W. I took this world civilizations class to 1500 class last year and the professor clearly didn't believe in God. Some of the things that he said in class or briefly referred to didn't sound right when it came to the church in history. At the beginning of the school year he gave us this speech about how we mustn't be biased but objective in our learning and research, yet he seemed to be going back on his own philosophy. Our class found him to be rather intimidating so we didn't speak much in his class. One girl who took another class with him dropped it because she was tired of him ragging on God and another girl who took his medievil world or Reneissance and Reformation class or whatever got points taken off of her test because she challenged what he taught in class on this essay question that she had gone and done research about but he still disregarded it. Apparentally the same class that I took the year before has gotten worse, because some of my friends who took it had to write a paper on a certain topic and they were pained by what kind of paper that they felt compelled to write a certain way because they knew that that was what he wanted. They weren't devout christians but they still felt unsettled by it.

Winchester
Your teacher is what is known in the scientific community as an idiot. Sadly, the only way to defeat her is by opening the window of the classroom and throwing an Obama t-shirt out of it. She (along with other idiots) will jump right out the window. If the classroom is on the ground floor, simply lock the window. They will sit outside mournfully. Ignore them. If it is above the ground floor, they may be seriously or gravely injured. If grades don't matter to you, simply ask pointed questions until she cries and/or lobotomizes herself with a mechanical pencil to escape the onslaught of reason, which is as garlic to vampires. She will probably fail you, because the common American idiot has very little in the way of integrity. I had a friend who dropped a class because the teacher said that American Indians were peaceful vegetarians. We all know they were bloodthirsty warriors, which is why we name our high school sports teams after them. He also stirred some trouble when a teacher told him he was Anglo. He denied any Anglo heritage and stated he was Teutonic. Her head promptly exploded. Edited January 28, 2009 by Winchester

I find only very very rare references to his stance on life issues outside Phatmass. I was surprised that they had no idea, being Catholic, but at least now they know. It felt mean to burst their bubbles like that, but it was a good thing.

HisChildForever
My first semester in college I had an extremely liberal professor who did not teach the course very well (introduction to human adjustment, a counseling course) and went on rants about how horrible Bush is and - yes, this is coming from me - feminism. Just too much feminism. (The political/equal rights kind, not the abortion kind.) I felt bad for all the males in my class. homeschoolmom
Could you speak to her after class about this? If it is really outside of the scope of the class, you may remind her that you are there for Food and Nutrition (or whatever you said the class was). Is there a syllabus? Maybe talk to the dean of the department? When I was a sophomore in college, I was in an American Government class and the teacher was obviously anti-Christian. She was from Louisiana (we were in Wisconsin) and she often related stories of the evil Baptists she'd encountered in her life and who influenced then-current politics (Baptist was her word for Christian, I guess... always Baptists). I finally talked to her after class and told her that I was offended and asked her to stop. She did. If she hadn't, I would have gone to the dean of the Poli Sci department. You are paying good money to learn about the subject at hand, not to listen to professors pontificate.
