But the holy angels concern themselves even more with our spiritual well-being, though we do not always recognize their loving solicitude. In the following story, both dimensions of their solicitous help are united. On August 16, 1936, a thief paid a “visit” to the owner of a leather factory, Herman Moebius, who lived in a small town on a lake in Germany. Herman’s four year old daughter, Helga, was sleeping in the nursery. The thief, Frederick Metzler, who had already been arrested several times for stealing, entered through the back garden, climbed up onto the balcony and entered the window on the second floor of the home. He broke into a desk and two cabinets, and looted a few jewels of no particular value. Suddenly, little Helga stood before the thief in her pajamas. “What are you doing?” the child asked. (This is what the thief later recounted to the police.) “I’m looking for the jewels that your Mommy must have somewhere around here.” “Mommy’s jewels?” repeated the little girl. “They are where Daddy keeps his money.” “And where does your Daddy keep his money?” “I’m not going to tell you,” answered the little one, “I bet you’re a thief!” Then the thief shook the child by the shoulders and threatened, “If you don’t tell me where your Daddy keeps his money, I’ll slit your throat!” “You aren’t allowed to do that,” said little Helga. “Oh yeah! Why can’t I do it?” “My Guardian Angel won’t let you.” “And where do you have your Guardian Angel, huh?” Helga led the thief into her small nursery and pointed to the picture of the Guardian Angel on the wall. “I always pray to him,” the child remarked. Then the thief felt his eyes moisten. There rose up in him memories of his own childhood, memories of his mother who had died so long ago… Hadn’t he also had such a Guardian Angel hanging over his poor little cot? “Okay,” said the thief and left the room. He kicked aside with disdain the pile of stolen jewels which were ready to be packed up. Then he climbed down from the balcony back into the garden, without having taken anything with him. At that point, he was overtaken and arrested by the police. Only later was Metzler’s explanation confirmed by the testimony of the child and by the abandoned loot (From Rev. A.M. Weigl, Schutzengelgeschichten, Grignion Verlag, Altötting, p. 64 ff.) However, many people have opted to give their angels nicknames to enhance the intimacy of their relationships with them. I have a friend who named his angel Paxton. Piccoli Fiori JMJ
I used to think angels were kinda lame and 'pink & glittery' was always my second thought about them (or those darn precious moments angel things...). But I read a book about the angels by Fr. Paul O'Sullivan, and I've been changed forever about them! It's really kinda crazy how much they really do and how they can be a real help in attaining holiness! The Opus Sanctorem Angelorum looks really neat as well. I'm kinda interested in becoming consecrated to the guardian angels...

Mr.Cat
It is my opinion that; Our Holy Guardian Angels are the most important friends that we can have in life. While some friends may come and go, our Guardian Angel is with us from conception to eternity, granted we are not condemned to hell. Fostering a devotion to these Angelic creatures is, in my personal opinion, important, they are our guides and protectors, in addition to being our counselors and intercessors. They are Princes of the Heavenly Court sent by the Triune Godhead to assist us in our journey to our true home. I rather like the Confraternity of the Guardian Angels, apart of the reason why I started this thread, but also to raise keen awareness and devotion to the Guardian Angels. There is a beautiful sentiment, in my opinion, which can be offered for one’s Guardian Angel, and it is this: Offer up, when one is properly disposed and in a State of Grace, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and one’s Holy Communion in honor of their Guardian Angel. The Confraternity of the Guardian Angels has some writings and texts, offered on their website, which in my personal opinion again is touching and remarkable. In particular their writing on silence, seems relevant to the modern age. I would recommend this writing on silence to anyone who is able and interested. Edited January 26, 2009 by Mr.CatholicCat
Mr.Cat
Holy Silence, the Secret of the Saints (Opus Sanctorum Angelorum) "Writing on recollection, Blessed Titus Brandsma, a Carmelite, observed: "A … point emphasized by the Rule is silence and recollection as a necessary condition for a life of prayer. Active recollection, by which we put ourselves and keep ourselves in the presence of God, has always been regarded as the essential preparation for communion with God in the mystical life. Just as the Prophet did not hear the voice of God in the storm, but in the gentle breeze, so the heart of the spiritual man must not be shaken by the storm but must listen for God's voice in the silence of its own interior." "A retreat master was accustomed to ask the retreatants if they had difficulties with meditation. From the show of hands and nods, it was evident that they did. Then he would ask if many also had difficulties with distractions. Yes, this too, is seemingly a universal affliction... Playfully, the retreat master would then point out to the group: "You say that you have difficulty with meditation but facility with distractions. Don’t you realize that distractions are just ever so many mini-meditations?" "Where your treasure is, there too shall your heart be!" (Matthew 6:21). Distractions are a loss of silence that comes primarily from a lack of poverty and detachment. Distractions are mostly about the things we want to possess, to enjoy, or whose possession we sense is threatened." "A principal danger in modern society comes from music which is both ubiquitous and mostly bad. Here a grave misconception reigns in the minds of those who think that the problem is principally one of bad lyrics. Granted the lyrics are often terrible. Ironically, though, this can constitute but a small part of the problem, since the music is generally so loud one cannot hear the words. No, the primary problem has to do with the very kind of music people are listening to; it is truly seductive. Here is the reason why: It pertains to the nature of all art to imitate nature. Thus, we recognize good art in those works which tastefully reproduce well the original of nature. In the ordered, clear rendering we find art both beautiful and pleasing. This is particularly evident in the case of painting and sculpture. The case with music is quite distinct and unique. Music does not imitate some extrinsic reality, but rather music imitates the interior passions (emotions) of the soul. Music excites emotions. You do not have to tell a child, "This is happy music" or "This is sad music!" In songs, the medium, that is, the music itself, is the essential message, not the words, and the emotions of our soul are the strings upon which this message is played. Today’s forms of music aim largely at stimulating sensuality, at provoking a passionate state of soul, whereby the passions are given more and more dominion over reason and will. Whoever understands this, sees immediately the absurdity of speaking of Christian Rock: Behind pious lyrics, the music is constantly and pursuasively caressing the sensual chords of the heart."
tinytherese
I decided to call mine Benedict after the Holy Father. I remember being fascinated with guardian angels on the day of my first communion because of a movie that I got as a gift called "My Secret Friend: A Guardian Angel Story."
