CatherineM
Well, we were afraid he wanted to run for President of the World, and he actually wanted to be Emperor. I don't think this is going to be an issue even if they repeal it. People can't do that job for more than 8 years anymore without alienating half the country. Jesus_lol
most people wouldnt want to do the job for more than 8 years, even if they were allowed to. Edited January 16, 2009 by Jesus_lol

KnightofChrist
Congressmen don't write their own bills so doubt he's alone here. This is the same guy who wants to invite Communist Dictator Hugo Chávez to the United States.

It is an effort on the part of some democrats to keep their party in control of the white house longer.
Nihil Obstat
If you're interested, look at the history of Canadian government. We have no limit on the number of terms a person can be Prime Minister. Although keep in mind, we don't elect the Prime Minister, we just elect a party. Still, similar. Some guys served too long. On the other hand, some got booted pretty quick.

(President elect Barack Obama) Everything. If this were to pass, like some Democrats are actively seeking to make happen, then Obama could be president for 3 terms, or more. Indefinitely. Even the article I sighted had the headline "Three Terms for Barack Obama?" We had another President that could have been President for life, you know. The Democrat FDR. If he would have been younger going into office, he could have been a very popular American dictator. That's why congress was so freaked out and quickly passed that amendment after FDR's passing to make sure that didn't happen again.

dauntingknight
OBAMA He is probably gonna be a disaster for the Democrats. Why would you want him serving another term when He IS NOT EVEN IN OFFICE YET and hasn't done anything yet? Jesus_lol
the difference with canada being that we tend kick out the guys we dont like much faster than america. few weeks of incompetence and being an arsehat from Stephen Harper, and out comes the no-confidence vote. he somehow managed to get a temporary reprieve from the governer general, but he still has the sword over his head. on the other end, George W's approval rating and general competence have been so low for so long, i am very surprised to see him make it to the end of his second term. his butt would still have a bootprint on it if he were a canadian prime minister. desertwoman
The 22nd Amendment came after FDR's three and a half....four terms (He died during his fourth term). The amendment was passed after that, but many people wanted to get rid of the 22nd amendment when Regan was on his second term. So I don't see it happening any time soon, for Regan was a great president and the amendment was not erased. It wont happen for Obama either.
