Guest Guest
As i mentioned in the title, i feel really sick asking this because it is very embarrassing, but i feel like i need to ask because it will make a difference in how urgent it is for me to go to confession. ok, we have a dog at home, she's still a puppy and it's more my dad's baby than anything, but this is the part that i'm afraid to bring up. sometimes when it licks my hands and face i think i get this sensation that i'm getting aroused (i swear this is a sincere question! I feel really sick having to ask this) it's not like i like this or anything, i don't even want it to happen but is this a mortal sin? if it is i'll definately go to confession (maybe not at my own parish, understandibly so, i hope), but if it is it's not like i can get rid of the dog either b/c it's my dad's and i still live at home. Theologian in Training
No, it is definitely not a mortal sin, nor anything you have to confess. You cannot control the arousal that occurs, nor does it sound as though you are seeking it out for pleasure. I also want to assure you that you are not alone, as I know of others that have experienced this same thing as well. Just relax, and don't get yourself so worked up over it, it is not a sin. Hope that helps. God Bless
Carson Weber
To back up my brother Theologian in Training, Concupiscence is a result of our fallen nature. It involves a darkened intellect, a weakened will, and disordered passions.' When we experience strong temptation - the weight of concupiscence, this in and of itself isn't a sin. One of my professors - Dr. Regis Martin - would speak in class of his disordered passions craving a particular combination of liquor and espresso when he was a graduate student at the Angelium in Rome. Everytime he would pass this particular Cafe, he would feel an urge to submit to gluttony and down as many of these liquors-coffee combinations he could get his hands on. It is our decision whether or not to submit to the weight of concupiscence (e.g. sinful thoughts that enter our mind unwillingly, which can be placed there by fallen angels), and that is where sin comes in. Sin involves an action of the will. If you submit to temptation, then you sin. Temptation itself isn't sin. I hope this helps!
