Guest Guest_St. Woody
I was curious as to why there exists no 15th station of the cross dealing with Christ's resurrection from the dead.
Adeodatus
Because the Resurrection is not itself a station of the Cross. Rather, it is the first station of the Stations of the Resurrection. If we add the Resurrection as station 15, it's almost like we're afraid that the story ends in disaster...Jesus dead and gone, never coming back? We know how the story ends, so we're not afraid to end this devotion at the entombment of Christ. We know Jesus rose again, but in the Stations of the Cross (Via Crucis) we just contemplate his suffering and death, and in the Stations of the Resurrection (Via Lucis) we contemplate His triumph and glory. I certainly recommend the Via Lucis as a devotion for Eastertide!
