Is it a mortal sin??

for example.... my mom got papers for a dog and told them that I bought a brown dog, 7 months old... when in fact I didn't. She asked me .. if they call me ... to tell them that I bought it.

Would I be sinning if I agreed to this?

Also... she wants to give a puppy to someone in the house for Christmas.... He found out about it being here, and he asked my mom about it, and my mom lied to him saying that I was keeping the puppy for someone else.

If he asks about it to me, should I lie for my mom if it's keeping a secret for her?

...just wanna know..
