kujo
FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie, The Sun can reveal. The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever. The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part. The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham. Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin. CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will again play Bruce’s assistant Alfred. Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role. Insiders also revealed to The Sun the flick will end on a cliffhanger over whether Batman survives a blast at Wayne Towers. Nolan had been tight-lipped about the future of the Batman films after being rocked by the January death of HEATH LEDGER — tipped to receive a posthumous Oscar for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight. A film insider said: “Chris wasn’t sure if he wanted to do another movie but as soon as he decided to, he got the wheels in motion. “Eddie’s a fantastic addition. Everyone’s excited to see what he does as the Riddler.”
Source: The Sun Is anyone else nauseated by the thought of Shia LeBouf as Robin and Eddie Murphy as the Riddler? Perhaps the silverlining is that this means that Johnny Depp could possibly fill Heath Ledger's shoes in a later film. But still....Professor Klump as the Riddler? Not to mention....a black Riddler? Didn't Tim Burton try this stunt with Harvey Dent in the first Batman? If this is true, Murphy (and Nolan, for that matter) is gonna have a hard time winning me over. CatherineM
Well, a lot of people wondered about Heath as the Joker, so I'm hoping that he can get the same kind of performance out of Eddie. I guess he has an evil enough laugh.

Guest Optimus Prime
I was utterly disappointed with Dark Knight. As far I am concerned put a sock in the Batman franchise yet again. Let it be said though, Begins was truly amazing! Now we await Marvel's contined unveiling of The Avengers series. Sorry DC, you've lost a fan in me for good! HisChildForever
I believe Murphy has the potential to be excellent. This Batman series seems to be more realistic and less "cartoony" than previous Batman films (like Batman Forever and Batman & Robin). So I think you shouldn't associate Murphy with Carey in that respect. Jim was goofy, I think Murphy will be a very sophisticated and suave Riddler. With that being said, I don't think they should have Riddler, Catwoman, and Robin in the same movie because that could lead away from the realism. I think Shia is fantastic. Every new movie of his is better than the last (in terms of his acting). Rachal is pretty cool too. They need a leading female role after the last movie. Edit - I would like to add that I don't think Catwoman will be as sexualized as previous movies, and also I find it hard to see Bale-Batman as an older brother/role model (in relation to Robin). salterrae
JM + JT I think all of Eddie Murphy's roles are annoying. I'm not looking forward to this one. You've lost my business. Should've gone with Johnny.
Excelsior1027
Don't freak out, anyone, these are all rumors. Christopher Nolan hasn't even agreed to make the third Batman movie and there is no script yet. No one knows if The Riddler will even be one of the villains let alone if Eddie Murphy would play him. I think she could do a good job, if the material is good. I also think that, given her strong acting credentials, she will be a better female lead than either Katie Holmes or Maggie Gyllenhaal. As for Shia, I'm not sold on him as anything other than a Zach Braff-type...a wisecracking goofball. Furthermore, I am seriously questioning the inclusion of Robin in this franchise, at least at this moment. I just don't see the need for yet another caped-crusader in this series, much less someone who is not known as much more than a comedic actor. Shia was good as mini-Indy...but Robin...methinks not. Finally, for Murphy....please. I just don't understand casting him. If they're trying to save Depp for a later portrayal of the Joker, fine. But is there not another, say, CAUSASIAN, actor who can capture this character? I hate to be hung up on race here, but it just seems like a politically correct choice...like they have to incorporate some "diversity" into these movies. Murphy can be funny, but I have never seen anything "sophisticated" about him as an actor, unless portraying a brood of farting fatties counts. That being said, Nolan has given us 2 phenomenal movies and has gotten unreal performances out of questionable actor choices (the first thing I thought when he cast Ledger..."What? The Brokeback Mountain finook?"). I guess we'll have to wait and see what he comes up with. One thing is for sure...I will be there opening night, regardless.
