MithLuin
I was going through my google docs today and realized I haven't updated this list and I still have not added any Carmelites! I was planning on adding some Visitation Nuns as well... Did anyone want to help with updating the information? I'd love help adding the Carmelites to the list (because there is like a MILLION of them!) I would be more than grateful to get this list a little more complete (and maybe longer ) Here's the link to review it: Women's Contemplative Communities
For those of us who only have a community or two to add, maybe it would be easier for us to just post in this thread, and then those who have permission to edit the google doc can add them by just copying/pasting? It might be easier than giving permissions to lots of people. Here's the information requested, though it's okay to add a community even if you don't have all the info. In The Arms of The Lord
Here's a great website to get all that information.... http://www.religiousministries.com For example: where it says "Organization or Keyword: Carmelite Select Group: Women's Groups Select State: I usually don't choose, that way you'll get more results." They have the monastery name, where it is, the address, Superior name, a website if they have one, and even the number of Sisters in the community and what stage of formation they're in. I think they keep this website updated, so it should all be accurate.
Chiquitunga
Sure I can give you a hand! Sorry I couldn't help myself! You probably recognize this from that Poor Clare booklet Have one myself .. this one is from from the PCCs in Los Altos Hills' site http://poorclares.wordpress.com/ Question though regarding Carmel: are you planning/hoping to put all the Carmels in the US on this list? Or more just the ones we know of/recommend/like ones associated with the IRL, etc. I think with the help of a few friends of mine, we can help you out speedily here! By the way, once this list is done, are you planning to share this with some different vocation offices, etc. because I think quite a few could use it, lol. I've come across a number of confusing lists out there. Like here on the official vocations site for Joliet, http://www.vocations.com/womenrel.html it just seems to be a few random communities for each order/congregation in alphabetical order and not categorized by active/contemplative, etc. Or this one on Rockford's official site, http://www.rockvoc.o...ous-orders.html For one thing, they have the Passionist Nuns in Whitesville, KY listed under Franciscans .. confusing Edited October 23, 2010 by Chiquitunga

I would love your help with all the Carmels. I am aiming for all the Carmels in the US, but if there are objections... I can give you permission to edit if you PM an e-mail address to me. I never thought about sharing this with Diocesan Vocation Offices or anything else. I do share the list with the founder/head of the Here I Am, Lord conference. He asks for prayers for the conference and the communities can send info or a representative if they like/are able. Perhaps Rockford will start editing the content of their website now that they just did a major redesign. And I agree, those two examples are very confusing. I'm sure there are more... Piccoli Fiori JMJ
+JMJ I was hoping I could still edit my previous post, but no... too late. I would appreciate some help going over the information for the Dominicans and the Benedictines that I have listed. I have reason to believe that some of my information is on the old, stale side. I know I still have some communities to add for both of these Orders! Also, would someone be willing/able to work on the Carmelites (O.C.D. & O.Carm.)? ksterling
While I still don't think I am called to a contemplative life, I do find this charism to be very compelling. I recently read a story about a gifted basketball player, Shelly Pennefather, who left a promising pro career to become a Poor Clare. She joined a monastery in Alexandria, VA. I searched for a website but didn't find one. Does anyone know if this monastery has a website and I am just not finding it? I have to go to DC on business in a few weeks and will be staying a short drive from Alexandria - I would love to find out when mass is and stop by. I won't suppose they would have a current one though since it seems they don't have internet (that's whay I got from the article) Maybe you can call to inqure about the mass times. I found this number for them (hope it still works) Poor Clare Monastery of Mary, Mother of the Church 2505 Stonehedge Drive Alexandria, Virginia 22306-2499 Phone: (703) 768-4918 Fax:
In The Arms of The Lord
Here is the community profile for that Poor Clare Monastery in VA: http://db.religiouslife.com/reg_life/irl.nsf/org/96 Edited to add: I found a Parish website in Virginia that mentions the monastery, here is a little bit: http://www.saintlouisparish.org/poorclare.html It states that Mass at the monastery is celebrated daily at 7:00 a.m. The page was updated a couple of months ago. You could always call to be sure. Edited October 27, 2010 by In The Arms of The Lord

ksterling
Thanks, Teresa Benedicta - I really don't feel called to that life so I don't want to bother anyone. I would, however, like to attend mass there and will call when I arrive to verify the time. Thanks to everyone else for the info. Kat
