Lilllabettt
You may know that she was scheduled to enter the monastery earlier this year; however, she left for a little while to be with her father, when he found out he had only a few months to live. He died in October. She has now entered the monastery officially and started her postulancy! Her address is: Visitation Monastery attn: Deborah Fails 14 Beach Rd Tyringham, MA 01264 She may only write to non-family members twice a year, at Christmas and Easter. she_who_is_not
I think the Visitandine lifestyle is awesome. If I ever start discerning again, they would probably be on the list.

DameAgnes
How wonderful for Deborah, and may God Bless her. My goodness, but that is one beautiful house, isn't it? Lovely grounds. I like this four part piece by Sr. Bernadette that covers her journey from postulancy to solemn vows: http://www.vistyr.org/novitiate.html

Saint Therese
I like the practice of making "renunciations" before Solemn Profession. Very romantic. Edited December 15, 2008 by Saint Therese

the lords sheep
WOW! Congratulations Deborah! May God bless you for your willingness to follow him!
So religious life is as much about fashion as life in the world?
I don't think anyone that's seriously discerning a religoius vocation would every suggest that "religious life is as much about fashion as life in the world." That would be quite a ridiculous reason for choosing a particular congregation or the religious life in general. However, whenever I see the habit, it reminds me of God and of the counter-cultural life that the Sisters are living by their vocation. And that does make me excited. In Christ, Lauren ps- and if the inner girl in me delights just a little bit in seeing a nun in her beautiful wedding dress, the world is none-the-worse for it. I've never quite hear of a beautiful whimple being a fashion statement... Edited December 15, 2008 by the lords sheep

DameAgnes
There is nothing wrong with appreciating a habit. I happen to think the Visitation Nuns DO have a nice-looking habit and I love the groovy veil. But that doesn't mean that's all I appreciate about them. Can we lighten up a little around here?
