JimR-OCDS
St John of the Cross describes two Dark Nights. The fist is the Dark Night of Sense. This is where we feel dryness in prayer, and don't seem to be getting closer to God. The Second, which is deeper, is the Dark Night of the Soul. St. John says that only those who are advanced in prayer, reach this point. Most of us, go through the Dark Night of Sense. Mother Teresa went through a severe Dark Night of the Soul.
