TradMom
+Praised be Jesus Christ! Loved the fun fact about the St. Cecilia's Benedictines, and I have a fun fact for you about the Benedictine Nuns at Regina Laudis. The "junior" sisters have "cream" colored veils as opposed to the snow white veils of the novices. Very difficult to see the difference, but if you look closely - you will see it! Maybe we should start a fun fact thread about nuns' habits? Pax!
DameAgnes
Interesting about the Regina Laudis nuns, and now that you mention it, it's much easier to make out: http://abbeyofreginalaudis.com/sitelive/index.htm

genesisweavers
Interesting about the Regina Laudis nuns, and now that you mention it, it's much easier to make out: http://abbeyofreginalaudis.com/sitelive/index.htm
At Regina Laudis they used to keep the cream color veil until after solemn profession. A few years after the solemn profession the nuns have an ancient ceremony of the consecration of a virgin. It was at that consecration that the nun received the black veil. That practice was discontinued maybe about five years ago probably because some divorced women were entering. Another fun fact: the Carthusian nuns also have that ancient ceremony of consecration. When the Carthusian nun is consecrated see receives a liturgical stole which she uses if she proclaims the gospel at the night office. She also wears it when she is buried. That custom goes back to ancient times when a group of deconesses were absorbed into their order.
