Being a chess player, I am curious of the level of chess players, if it exists, on Phatmass.

I am looking for personal opinions on the game as well as personal accounts of playing chess.

I would like to ask anyone if they think they can beat me. Any hidden grandmasters?

I think chess is the greatest game in the world as you do not have dice to blame your losses on.

I was taught how to play at age 5-6 by my mom. At first, she won every game. However after about three years, I was winning every game, and as a result, I stopped playing with my Mom.

I was a member of a homeschool chess club but it was small and did not last long.

I would not play again until I was a sophomore in high school. By the time I was a senior, I had begun to attend tournaments, and was getting books and studying.

About 2 years ago, I went a big national chess tournament known as the Chicago Open. I ended up getting 10th place in my section of 110 people. I won $450 but keep in mind the entry fee was $200.

I am an active tournament player and have directed 5 chess tournaments. However, I plan to stop directing so as to focus on school and so I can spend more time participating in tournaments.

My current USCF (United States Chess Federation) rating is 1623 which puts me as a Class B player.

Anyone up for a game?

i was on the chess team in 1st and 2nd grade. I opted to get out when i kept getting made fun of by the people in the club. turns out, at a small Catholic elementary school, the chess team is the cool kids!

My Dad taught me how to play chess when I was about 9 or 10, I think, and I've been playing off an on ever since. I don't play too much anymore, but really I would only ever play my brother or some friends in grade school, and for the most part I would win all the time. Now my brother is on the chess team at his high-school, and we played twice when I was home for Thanksgiving: he beat me both times. I highly, HIGHLY doubt that I could beat you or even pose a challenge to you, eagle_eye, lol!

May God bless and protect you always in all of your endeavors!

Your Brother in Christ,

Joe

eagle
being a fellow texas holdem player, do you think the games are similar ? (obviously one uses cards and one uses chess pieces but you know what i mean)
which do you think is tougher to learn and become skilled at ?
i have never played chess.

I beat the computer on the Phatmass arcade checkers a few times, I think I'll pass on the eagle_eye chess challenge.
