CatherineM
Every generation has had it's crisis, wars, and natural disasters. We just have better news coverage. Jesus told us that we couldn't know the time, and John Paul II told us to "Be Not Afraid." I try to remember both when things look bleak. I also love disaster movies, so I sometimes scare myself for no good reason.

eagle_eye222001
I don't think so. The Catholic Church is recharging itself. Over the past several years, the Church has been getting back to the basics, leaning more conservative and becoming more "Catholic." Most important, the Church seems to be upholding those who claim to be Catholic to act Catholic. While this will lose some, this will make the Church overall stronger. I know there has been a religious vocation shortage however in my archdiocese, they are adding on to both a seminary and a Poor Claire cloister. Reading some stuff in Revelation also talks about devastating attacks on the Church and world-wide calamity. I know there is a bunch of stuff going around the world but that is happening all the time. That is not to say I say this with full confidence as I know the bible says that... 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you 2 for you are well aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night. 3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction falls on them, as suddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape. 4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief. 5 No, you are all children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness, 6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober. Interesting stuff. KnightofChrist
Are these days, likened to the days of Noah (Noe) and Lot? They very much seem to be. ---- 26 And as it came to pass in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat and drink, they married wives, and were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark: and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise as it came to pass, in the days of Lot: they did eat and drink, they bought and sold, they planted and built. 29 And in the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man shall be revealed. 31 In that hour, he that shall be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away: and he that shall be in the field, in like manner, let him not return back. 32 Remember Lot's wife. 33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose it, shall preserve it. 34 I say to you: in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35 Two women shall be grinding together: the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left: two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be keft. 36 They answering, say to him: Where, Lord? 37 Who said to them: Wheresoever the body shall be, thither will the eagles also be gathered together. I also believe that the Church WILL become stronger near the end of time, in that its members will be more orthodox and truly Christian. The Church IS undergoing innumerable attacks in society. Jesus also said that men can read the signs of the times... not that we can know exactly when the end of the world is, but we can "read the signs" that we are nearing the end of the world. But what I am saying, is every person in every religion believes their personal religion will have a great revival in the end times, and everybody thinks the end is about to come. The environmentalists are telling us that we are going to destroy ourselves unless we do something drastic in the next ten years. Religious fanatics are saying pretty much the same. Everybody expects doom and gloom. And what if what you read means something different than what you think and have been told? Do you want to trust your own mind, and the minds of your human teachers?
