Put some time into a few days of hunting and you've got a relatively cheap way of providing food for your family. When you have 7 kids like they do it makes a huge difference in what you spend at the grocery store. And I like The Nuge.
missionseeker
I have a friend whose uncle wrote to him that he was "pro-life, just not pro-human life" because there were "too many of us already" But he can eat deer and such so, let's protect them... Maximilianus
Kind of a touchy subject. Most people don't hunt or don't know anyone that hunts so they don't understand the appeal for hunting or since it's not important to them they dismiss it and deem it unnecessary. Hunting is an important part of wildlife management and conservation, but if you hunt just to kill animals there's something wrong with you. kafka
Killing animals is not intrinsically evil since they are not moral agents, and have been placed on earth to serve men. So that covers the second font of morality which analyses the act itself in light of the moral law, therefore the overall act defaults to the first and third fonts of morality namely intention and circumstance (the consequences, and any other factors pertaining to the overall act). Good intentions could be hunting for the food, for recreation, to control over-population, even hunting for the hides could be moral to use for clothing or even selling and trading provided the good outweighs the bad. Bad intentions could be killing for the sake of cruelty. With good intention as long as the good consequences outweigh the bad, the overall act is moral. One bad consequence which could outweigh good ones is killing an instinct animal even with a good intention such as recreation, provided their are other animals not instinct which one could choose to hunt. Hope that helps. BTW, my dad shot a large doe today. Yay for him!!!

God gave us dominion of animals, but I view that as a responsibility to protect our fellow creatures not to use them however we see fit. Mr_Private_Person
I hear killing cockroaches isn't sinful, so lets all go out and hunt them. Jesus would have eaten fish and lamb (Passover, the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, etc.), since he was without sin I think we're pretty safe in saying it's not wrong to eat meat.
