Brigid
so, today I went to confession.... after I confessed my sins, the priest looked me straight in the eye and told me exactly what I needed to hear. it was nothing out of the ordinary... nothing I hadn't heard before. but it was what I needed, and it was amazing. *sigh* I love our Church. Sparky
Today when I went to confession, the priest told me to do two decades of the rosary for penance. And then the homily during Mass was directed towards me (or so it seemed).
CatherineM
My last penance in Florida was to police all the cigarette butts in the church parking lot. It was a downtown church with lots of homeless in the area, so it took me hours. When I asked him why, he said I was always so hard on myself, that he wanted me to really work hard so that I would forgive myself. He was right it worked. I forgave myself and got mad at him. Brigid
haha, that's awesome. lots of work for you, but awesome. to be honest, I was so struck by what my priest said tonight that I completely forgot what penance he gave me, but of all the times I've gone to him (he's the pastor at our parish, so I get him a lot. ), my penance has never been anything but "talk to Jesus in your own words and renew your commitment to Him." so I did that. icelandic_iceskater
This past summer I was at a week long discipleship formation retreat. I spend the first half of the week indifferent to God, sitting on the sidelines, etc. (<story of my life for a year or so before this) Wednesday evening I went to confession. My penance? To get everything out of the rest of the weekend that I possibly could.

tinytherese
What I get annoyed by is that practically everytime I go to confession I realize soon afterwards that I forgot at least one thing that I forgot to confess. Once I went to confession twice in the same day because I forgot something and then realized yet another thing that I had forgotten! And I actually write my sins down when I go and I still sometimes forget something.
Brigid
ah, I hate it when that happens. there have been a couple of times when I confess my sins and Father starts talking, and while he's still talking I realize I've forgotten a sin! I'm always tempted to interrupt him (or go back, if I remember after I left the confessional) but I always remember that God knows I fully intended to confess it, and I am truly sorry for it. it's not something I deliberately held back, so I know He forgave me even though I didn't say it out loud. qfnol31
Since I go behind the screen, I normally don't get looked in the eyes. Of course, I schedule them all and they all know me, so I try not to let them know who I am...especially my boss... However, I often hear what I need to hear. HisChildForever
My penance this morning was three Hail Mary's, and lately I've been growing closer to her.
