HisChildForever
I didn't see the rolled up paper stuffed under my windshield wipers until after I got home from work. Well, it's "Tony Alamo, Christian Ministries Newsletter." I skimmed it and came upon two disturbing spots: a blanket generalization that Catholic boys and girls are sexually abused on a daily basis, and a published letter-to-the-editor, saying that the Vatican "plans to destroy and take over" America. I immediately called them up and was speaking to a man (in his mid-thirties, I'm guessing) for a good twenty minutes until my parents discovered me and forced me off the phone. I was very pleasant, I just told him it was offensive and it was slander. He raised his voice a few times - I kept mine level the entire time - but was fairly decent otherwise. I learned a couple of things about Catholicism that I've never known before! 1. The Vatican teaches and promotes contraception 2. The Vatican started the World Wars 3. The Vatican controls history books 4. Catholics worship Mary and statues 5. Purgatory doesn't exist (And yes, I did appropriately counter every single one of his claims. He basically told me it was all heresy and I'm not saved or something.) I also asked him about what he thought regarding Christ saying "eat my flesh and drink my blood" and he said some parts of the Bible are symbolic and others literal, and when I asked who was it who decided these things, he said all born-agains "know in the Spirit." But honestly, half of it was conspiracy theories! I mean, the Vatican controls history books?!?!
IrishSalesian
They need to get their facts straight, so if you give me their mailing address, I will gladly mail them a copy of the Catechism. Good for you for sticking up for your faith, and remaining calm. It speaks multitudes when Catholics can argue, and be tame. These people are obviously deranged, so just ignore them. Good Work Lady! HisChildForever
The guy was telling me that he attended Catholic Church when he was younger. I wonder who brainwashed him. Oh, and I will be showing you that newsletter, there's no doubt about it. Monday's lunch is going to be interesting.

CatholicCid
I hope you didn't tell him about our secret handshake and the super-duper Jesuit decoder rings! If they found that out, they'd have a field day.

Tried to point out a few verses, but the person refused to be open to them and instead would ignore my comments and move to other verses. When someone refuses to debate with you logically.......there is no debate then. Only nonsensical followings. That gets boring fast. I mean, it takes two people to have a constructive conversation. If one does not do their part...the conversation becomes worthless.
HisChildForever
Yeah, he kept interrupting me. And whenever I said "hold on" and pulled away from the phone - like when my Mom and then Dad came into my room - and I got back on the phone, he was talking as if I never left. Selah
I'm surprised they didn't bring up the Jesuits Good for you though, dear. A wise friend on here once told me that it isn't necisarily the one you are debating that you are trying to convince--it's the lurkers who are listening in and are genuinly interested! You may have planted a seed or two! Keep praying! Edited November 9, 2008 by Selah
Justin86
Sounds like your typical anti-Catholic Protestant dork. Not worth anyone's time. Do what I do, and pee on the pamphlets.

Christian Identity people believe that your race should be your religion. When Catholics hang out with "mud people," they are traitors to their race, and therefore traitors to God. Talking to them is like talking to a merry-go-round.
