Yes! I know 3 orders that I would recommend:

Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus (link is for Central Province, but there are more):

Sisters of Life

Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal

I have met sisters from all these orders and they are very holy. I was able to go to the Carmelite convent this summer, and it was a wonderful experience. One I will never forget! :))

I actually seriously considered joining both the Sisters of Life and the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal, both of which are phenomenal orders.

So did I before I found out I was called to be a cloistered Discalced Carmelite nun. I was planning to go to a retreat later this month with the CFR's and the Sisters of Life, but I decided not to because of school obligations. I went last year and loved it! I got to meet Sr. Mary Gabriel and Sr. Therese Marie of the Sisters of Life, and Sr. Catherine and Sr. Agnes of the CFR's.

Little Sisters of the Poor...pre-Council description was "Active/Contemplative." The terminology has changed but the lifestyle is the same.

The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist are also semi-contemplative: www.sistersofmary.org

And I'm sure the Nashville Dominicans are as well:
www.nashvilledominican.org

And I think the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are as well:

And the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy

Sisters of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

I'm pretty sure most if not all of these are semi-contemplative communities.

Personally, I think there are a lot of communities out there that could be described as semi-contemplative. But, I'm wondering what the blend of contemplation-action looks like for you? Would a Visitation Monastery fit your bill? Nashville Dominicans? Little Sisters of the Poor?

This used to be known as "semi-cloistered." Now they use contemplative-active, and Nashville is a more active form of that.

The phrase means that they put a whole lot of emphasis on community prayer and contemplation before going out to their apostolates.

The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, which is a Society of Apostolic Life, were designed to be 'daughters of prayer' and had extensive prayers before going out into apostolates. St. Vincent de Paul told them that their office was caring for the poor.

The Sisters of Life, OTOH, are contemplative-active in today's terminology. They have a majority of their horarium dedicated to prayer, but are still assigned apostolates.

The Visitation's Second Federation--of which I recommend only two (Brooklyn & Georgetown)--are cloistered but it's "constitutional." The Georgetown sisters are permitted to go out onto the campus of their university to go to their teaching assignments. I believe Brooklyn's school is attached to the convent, so the sisters don't really leave enclosure. I could be wrong, though.

HTH.

Blessings,
Gemma

The Bridgettine nuns have a semi cloistered branch in Darrien Connecticut. They are habited, slightly modified with the the traditional helmet. They have a great retreat house monastery there.

:duh: I completely forgot about them. Do they have a website yet?

+ Praised be Jesus Christ!

What about the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Alhambra, CA? I believe they consider themselves contemplative, too.

Sorry I mispelled Brigittines, they don't seem to have a website, but it is an awesome property and house, with retreat center. They sang quite a bit of Latin when I was there
