I also find it ironic when people get mad at Russia for doing exactly the same things we do. For instance, during the Cuban missile Crisis we had missiles as near to the USSR as Cuba is to Florida already. Why do Americans think they are THE police force of the world?

I think it is a given that Russia will counter our missile shield in Poland. They would be either A. Idealistic (not a bad thing) or B. stupid not to do it. If they are not idealists then the logical move is exactly what they are doing. Russian governments are not known for being idealistic.

You know what is stupid? Working for better ties with Russia. A much better idea would be to continue provoking them and bolstering Putin's popular support by allowing him to position himself as the strong leader standing up to Washington agression. Watch Russian media. "Washington warned Moscow not to fly our planes X (some place around the north pole) but Putin declaired that Russia will not be bullied".
