mom25angels
I can quite honestly say that I do not feel smarter than my convert friends. Indeed I have learned so much from them. In fact their passion for the Faith inspires me to learn more myself. When I said that protestants are like children when it comes to Mary I simple meant that they haven't heard the Church's fullness of truth on her and that it is often best to start in simpler terms instead of immediately talking about The Assumption. Am I clarifying myself here or just digging a deeper hole? In Love, Sarah
homeschoolmom
no, no, no... I didn't mean you mom25angels... I'm fine with what you said. You're right in starting with tiny bits. that was sort of what I was requesting originally anyway. I don't want to throw a lot of Catholic lingo at my friends. BUT, (and as I said in my previous post-- it goes both ways here)... converts already feel stupid (read the thread regarding joining RCIA) and it is soooo easy to continue to let them feel that way. With the "fullness" that Catholics have comes a complete feeling of "emptiness" on the part of the convert... we are at a complete loss about certain things that if you simply defined your terms once in a while, would make all the difference. On the other hand... coming from being a very active church member, i am not a complete idiot on the basic idiology of the Christian faith, either. I guess, as a convert, I just ask that you don't talk down to me on the one hand but that you don't assume that I know what you are talking about (with regard to things that are DISTICTLY Catholic) on the other.... Thank you... again... I am not pointing any fingers at anyone... just taking out my frustration about this whole thing at you guys, cuz I know you can take it. Just think of me as an orphan from another country.. I am not fluant in the language, I don't know the customs, but I really want to be a part of the family... mom25angels
Well, welcome sister!!!! You're part of my family. Hey, we homeschoolers have to stick together!! Do you have a sponsor for RCIA? I sponsored a dear friend two years ago and learned almost as much as she did. Sarah
homeschoolmom
we don't have sponsers because we came into RCIA late (like about a month ago). In a parish of a gazillion members, we only have a handful of aquaintences... and as a fellow homeschooler, you must know that all of our friendships and those of our children come from our church (our co-op is held there, too.).... So... this is a big sacrifice we are willing to make, but... well, I just wish it were finished...

I am going to the Catholic homeschooling convention... the fact that I love homeschooling conventions doesn't hurt here... One of the foaf's (friend of a friend) at our new parish is trying to find some homeschoolers there. (she isn't even a homeschooler herself, she's trying to be helpful-- maybe I can convert her... ) And she asked me (through our mutual aquaintance) if I would help start a homeschool group... :freak:

Brother Adam
Homeschool mom- Just tell it to them straight. Catholics honor Mary as the scriptures honor Mary. Catholics love Mary as the Apostles took Mary into their home and loved her. Catholics do not worship Mary, or make a god of her. Mary is the Mother of the Lord and has a special place in the body of Christ. They can't argue with scripture.
