dUSt
For the sake of clarity, and not to confuse people who think of worship as a single definition, I like to limit the term "worship" to God. It's just easier, and doesn't lead to misconceptions. So, keeping this in mind, "worship" is reserved for God alone. Love, respect and honor can be given to Mary, the saints, other Christians, our family, etc.
cmotherofpirl
Worship and Adoration of God is called Latria. This is homage paid to God alone and to apply this to anything else is idolatry. So the Mass is an act of worship. Honoring a creature for its relationship to God is Dulia. This is indirect worship applied to distinguished servants for their service to God: saints and martyrs, and to relics, which are things made holy by being related to Saints. We call this veneration: St Francis, for example, is venerated for his love of God. Honoring Mary who is above the Saints and Martyrs is Hyperdulia.. She is not worshipped, but venerated. She is still a mere creature, and in no way recieves Latria. Prayer is lifting oneself to union with God thru praise, thanksgiving, and petition and conversing with God. Livin_the_MASS
Good question First and formost worship begins at The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! And Eucharistic Adoration. God gave us a body to worship Him with and Him alone! So at Holy Mass when we come into Church we genuflect as a sign of worship to acknowledge Christ's True Presence in the Eucharist At the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass the Community kneels as the priest is standing in the person of Christ and saying the prayer that invokes the Holy Spirit over the gifts of bread and wine to change them into the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinty of our Lord. Worship is done with the body as well. Thats why we make the sign of the Cross and genuflect in front of the Tabernacle, because that's Christ's True Presence. At Adoration instead of just genuflecting, (because Our Lord is exposed on the altar in the Monstrance) we get down on both knees and bow our heads out of a sign of worship (acknowledging His True Presence). When I went to Alabama to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Sisters there would bow there heads and touch them to the floor. At The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass they would have to brothers( helping serve Mass) they would fall prostate on the floor, to acknowledge Our Lord Truly coming down on the altar (at the consencration). Which I agree with that all of us should do this out of respect for His True Presense in the Holy Eucharist! So our bodies are used to show worship to God and God alone As for Mary we do not worship Mary, we honor her. Just like God commanded Honor Thy Father and Mother. Which by the way Jesus honored His Mother and Our Mother by making her Queen of Heaven and earth. We are to imate Jesus in everything, so we honor Our Mother Mary! Hope this helps bro, God Bless Jason Edited March 22, 2004 by Jason

Antoine of the Community of St. John, the children also prostrate themselves before Our Lord. I'm sure you can appreciate what a powerfull image this is As to how we Worship: mass, prayer, devotions, self sacrifice, Adoration. I feel truly blessed by the richness of our Faith in terms of Worship. It is full of depth, not just "feel good" practices. Sarah

Jericho923
just to add, i come from Latin America where in selective places many "Catholics" have gone astray in their worship and devotion, and honor Mary in ways that are hard to differentiate from the adoration to God.... But the Cath church condenms this (that is why i say "Catholics")! it is a sad reality bt it tends to happen in those places where there is no true presence of clergy and faith educators. We need vocations i those places so that the Truth can be restored. Ignorance is our enemy!
