foundsheep
Mass for me is my one on one with God and finally at the end recieving his body. But my worship doesnt stop there, I talk to him in the car, i proclaim as much as possible about him and his church whereever I am. I dont do cartwheels around the church or anything because I respect him to much.
Archangel
Mass and private prayers are how I worship God. I suppose Protestants have their services and private prayers, as well. Anglicans have a mass similar to our Catholic mass, but without the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. To me, most Protestant services seem like a multi-media bible study, with the focus being on the preacher's sermon. The services seem to be more emotional rather than spiritual. Here is the article from the Catholic Encyclopedia on "Christian Worship": http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15710a.htm

Thy Geekdom Come
Hmmm...I would say that worship is the act of prayer which recognizes God for His supreme majesty, thanks Him from His goodness in creation and for His mercy on us sinners, and shows genuine love of Him. Catholics engage in the following form of worship: 1. Mass (most important) 2. Liturgy of the Hours 3. Chaplet of Divine Mercy 4. Rosary 5. Adoration/Benediction 6. Lectio Divina (Scriptural Meditation) 7. General prayers 8. Certain prayerful works of ministry I think Protestants do the following: 1. Services 2. Rosary (some Lutherans an Anglicans) 3. General prayers 4. Certain prayerful works of ministry 5. Scripture reading

Laudate_Dominum
First and foremost, the Eucharistic Sacrifice. Also loving God with a longing to love Him all the more because He is infinitely worthy.
Theoketos
One of the biggest things that I see my seperated Brethern struggle with is "Congregationalism". That is the community calls to God (by gathering in His name) and God blesses them. Listen Lord your servents are speaking... From a Catholic prespective, God calls us, we respond, then He blesses us. The Person of Christ is the minister for just about every Sacrament (In Marriage we say that because Consent makes the Marriage, the Couple is the Minister [in the west]) In the Latter view it Christ who supplies strength for our weakness, and in former it seems that God is forced into box... esperanza
I agree with all of the above - and would add * recognizing Jesus in the "least of these" and serving them- is a form of worship *the way we live each day- what we decide to say- watch - listen to - wear - take part in can be (should be) all done for His glory - in Worship of Him
Brother Adam
What forms of worship should be directed to God alone and what forms of worship can be directed to Mary? What forms of worship can be directed towards any others?

Brother Adam
Mary is not worshiped.
According to some phatmassers, Mary recieves a "lesser worship" where as God recieves latria worship.
ironmonk
The problem with the term "Worship" is that many have thought that it was only meant for God. But there are different forms of worship. There is the worship that is meant for God alone. Then there are levels of Worship... one can worship a girlfriend or someone who the person looks up to... The word "worship" has been used for Mary by clergy, and I believe Popes of the past, but it has to do with the meaning.... most people in the USA assume that worship only has one meaning, but it doesn't. The Worship we give God has NEVER been used in the context as what we give Mary. Mary is not diefied. Mary is not equal to Christ. Mary is the first Chrsitian, and the greatest saint and salvation to mankind came through Mary's womb. We indeed worship her, but no Catholic Worships her. worship: 1.) To participate in religious rites of worship. 2.) To perform an act of worship. 3.) To honor and love as a deity. 4.) To regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion. 5.) To regard with awe, deference, and devotion. God Bless, Your Servant in Christ, ironmonk Edited March 11, 2004 by ironmonk
