A Lesson In Humility

Recommended Posts

I would just like to encourage everyone one this phorum to practice humility and compassion to the utmost of their abilities. I was just handed a smack-down of a lesson in humility by a Baptist on BaptistBoard.com. I acted in a way that was not edifying to Christ by "dancing gleefully" over a post I made on the other board. I was promptly called on this by someone from BB. I am grateful to this person for her Christian bodycheck, and have been dealt a severe amount of said humility by God through this situation.

Just remember you never know who's watching that we don't know, and what kind of impression they are going to get of us. May God guide you in all of your posts.

thanks frozencell. I have been in the confessional for this one many times. :(

St. Aloysius Bonzaga, when he was a student, if found fault with on any occasion, never tried to excuse himself. If he was wrong, he was wrong; if he was right, he would say to himself: I have often been wrong before. *

Humility is to the various virtures what the chain is to the Rosary; take away the chain and the beads are scattered, remove Humility and all virtures vanish.*

This is excellent, and definitely goes in the "refrigerator material" category (for those who read that thread). :D

+Litany of Humility+

His Emience Cardinal Merry delVal was accustomed to recite daily after he celebrated the Holy Mass
O Jesus meek and humble of heart, hear me
From the desire of being esteemed.........Deliver Me Jesus
From the desire of being loved.............Deliver me Jesus
From the desire of being extolled ..........Deliver me Jesus
From the desire of being honored..............Deliver me Jesus
From the desire of being praised......... Deliver me Jesus
From the desire of being preferred.........Deliver me Jesus
From the desire of being consulted...........Deliver me Jesus
From the desire of being approved.............Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of being humiliated.........Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of being despised............Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of suffering rebukes..............Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of being calumniated...........Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of being forgotten................ Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of being ridiculed..............Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of being wronged............Deliver me Jesus
From the fear of being suspected...........Deliver me Jesus
That others may be loved more than I..........Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it
That others may be esteemed more than I ................Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it
That in the opinion of the world others may increase and I may decrease..............Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it
That others may be chosen and I set aside............Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it
That others may be praised and I unnoticed............Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may became as holy as I should.......................Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it
Amen and amen

  ^_^

Speaking of humility ...

I've noticed something in my life that has to be God's doing ...

If I wear something that I think is cool and I hope people notice and compliment me, they never do.

But if I wear it with the attitude of, "So what if people notice?" then THAT is when they notice and compliment me.

God Conquers

God hits me up with some humility on a daily basis.

Just today I spilt almost an entire giant bulk bag of smarties on the floor at work.

Thy Geekdom Come

A thing I always found funny about humility:

The truly arrogant will call themselves humble, and the truly humble will never admit that they are truly humble.

God Conquers

The arrogant will be arrogant about being humble, the humble will be humble about their humbleness.

frozencell, thank you for this post. we all need to be reminded when we are acting uncharitably (Catholic and nonCatholic alike). Many times we are guilty of this. We all have been (remember the "Holy Sprite" incident with Larry {Truth?}).
