homeschoolmom
As much as I love my sweet little boy (he's five)... he's driving me nuts today! We are having a little disagreement about his sandwich. He didn't like just the pb sandwich-- wanted pb and j... then was upset because it was two slices of bread rather than only one. Two slices has too much crust (which up until today he liked). So, I offered to cut it and let him only eat one half. Well, guess who cut the sandwich the wrong way?? I cut it diagonally rather than across. How can I now convince him that half of a diagonally cut sandwich is the same size as half of a cross cut sandwich... ? He claims I made them bigger! Can't win today... Thy Geekdom Come
When I was a little kid, I was the biggest whiner in the world... I once went up to my mom and asked her for a glass of water. Then I yelled at her because there wasn't enough. Then I yelled at her because there was too much. Then she dumped the water over my head and asked, "Is that good enough for you?" Just be patient with the boy, there will be a lot of this left to go...

cmotherofpirl
Picky people make their own lunches, so there is one less thing to whine about mother of one foot stomper, one whiner, one middle child syndrome, and who is "always" right. and these are teenagers Edited March 9, 2004 by cmotherofpirl
homeschoolmom
I guess I forget that his world is still pretty small... a sandwich is a big part of his day (sad to say). I guess if I ordered a new car and it came from the dealer orange instead of blue, I'd be pretty upset, too. Perspective, perspecitive, perspective... Thy Geekdom Come
When I was little, my mother used to have to put a "lid" on my crib, because I would otherwise get out and cause havoc. Well, the lid didn't work, I just reached out, grabbed the wooden bars of my crib and broke them all off. My mother still doesn't know how I was strong enough to do that... She also had this little device that she could put on a doorknob that would basically keep you from being able to turn the knob...I figured it out on the first try...boy was she upset! Toddlers are amazingly resilient! Edited March 9, 2004 by Raphael

IcePrincessKRS
I know what those days are like! My child is only 7 months, but I'm the second eldest of 12 kids, the youngest being only 1 year old, and I've had to wrestle with the kids on many occasions. The sandwich story reminds me of one time when my brother Matthew was about 5 and I was making him lunch. I asked him if he wanted peanutbutter or bologna on his sandwich. He replied, "I want peanutbutter AND bologna." Not getting what he was implying I put my foot down and said, "Look kiddo, I'm only making you one sandwich, so whats it gonna be? Peanutbutter or bologna?" He shook his head and said, "No, I want peanutbutter ON my bologna." In shock and horror I said " Thats DISGUSTING! You won't eat that!" He said "Yes I will." I gave up. "Fine but if you decide you don't like it I'm MAKING you eat every last bite." He liked it. The next day he asked me for the same thing. I think if I tried to make him one now (he's almost 10) he'd refuse. lol

My father's favorite sandwich is peanut butter, mayonnaise, and dill pickles on rye bread. Now, granted I hate everything on it except the peanut butter...but that's just gross!
