Pontifex
Tatoos-The Fab that will not go away. In the old testament there are references against tatoos. (Lev 19:28) Certainly this must be taken in context for the main reason that tatoos were written against in the law was because it was a form of pagan worship. In the New Testament the main scripture reference that comes to mind is Paul's understanding of the body being a temple. (1Corinthians 3:16-17 and 1Corinthians 6:19) In both of these passages, Paul makes it clear that our bodies are temples of God and therefore we should treat them with respect and dignity. This is the lens by which we should make decisions about anything that we do with our bodies. We do not belong to ourselves. We belong to God, and therefore each decision we make should give glory to God. Personally, I think that People can forget their own sense of dignity and worth. They forget that the shell they walk around in is sacred. All flesh is sacred because of the Incarnation. Jesus became flesh and dwelt among us. Peace, Fr.
