crossingstandrewspass
I've been having some issues at school. As a semi-Catholic (which I can say because I'm loaded with Catholic doctrine despite the fact that my parents are both Southern Baptist), people at school shun me for my Catholicism. I go to an Independent Baptist based Christian school that is really depressing me because of what I believe. Like someone else posted, I was requested to take off my Miraculous Medal, and I refused. I received demerits for it. It's a sad thing, well at least I think it is. They won't allow me to worship the way I want to. They told me that I was wrong and I was going to hell just because I do the sign of the cross. Explain to me what I should do? I've been praying for months. I still can't await RCIA in September. Thy Geekdom Come
Don't give in. Stay strong and remember that God is with you. The more trouble you have to undergo for your faith, the more you will find that God is holding you up. Would you like my prayers?

homeschoolmom
Wow... I have to say that Baptist certainly make themselves look horrible. As a Baptist in transition, I must speak up for all of the Baptist who do not believe that Catholics are going to hell and are very nice, Christ-loving people... Just don't want anyone to paint all Baptists with a "big bad mean guy" brush.
Brother Adam
If I could go debate for you (I'm a Baptist) I would. Baptists can be so filled with "wisdom and eduction" they can miss God along the way. Read the Bible and pray as much as you can. Be prepared to answer their charges when you are challenged and hold firm. Most of them you won't shake at all, and they will probably leave more vindicted than when you started talking. But hope that in some seeds may be planted. St. Paul says that God is on your side- so then who can be against you?
crossingstandrewspass
Oh I'm well aware that the Baptists are not bad people at heart, just sometimes they can be a little fundamentalist. I was raised Southern Baptist, so I know how the situation is. My parents are open-minded towards Catholicism, they just won't accept some of the doctrine. They respect my right to be whatever religion I want to be. I appreciate that. However, my school, being Independent Baptist are very fundamentalist and do not like the fact that I practice some aspects of Catholicism in their presence. Little do they realize, that soon, I will be Catholic.

Spiritual_Arsonist
They told me that I was wrong and I was going to hell just because I do the sign of the cross.
They actually say that? Just because you recall Christ's Passion? Hmmm. Talk about being uncharitable.
Paladin D
Tell them... "John the Baptist had his head cut off ya know..."
crossingstandrewspass
I definitely agree with that. They are very uncharitable towards people. Keep in mind, I'm speaking for my school only not all Baptists. My parents are Southern Baptist and they aren't that bad at all. They actually support me becoming Catholic. Not many Baptists would support that. I guess my parents break tradition. In any case, I'm still pursuing Catholicism. Anyone have any suggestions for how I should handle this? Aloysius
i could let you borrow my phatmass shirt hehehehe... im sure they'd love the pic of the Rosary. but seriously, this should be a sign to you that you are truly stepping onto the path prepared for you by the Lord
Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.
so, my only advice to you is: REJOICE! BE GLAD! your reward will be great in heaven. hmmm another thing comes to mind
Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you
my advice: REJOICE, BE GLAD, LOVE THEM, PRAY FOR THEM. that's all i got. you're in my prayers! Because I think your prayers revived me once! I'll keep it up. I'm fighting hard. Keeping the faith... which is excellent for me.
Thy Geekdom Come
They actually support me becoming Catholic.
Cool. I know a Baptist couple that is VERY supportive of me. In fact, I think I may cause them to convert by my being here...
