What Would The 16-year-old Version Of Yourself

Nihil Obstat

Funny, I was thinking about this subject lately. 16 year old me is only four years less two weeks old, so not exactly the best indicator.
A few weeks ago I was looking through a couple boxes of stuff I've saved since kindergarden. It was fascinating, and it got me wondering how the kindergarden me would have perceived the almost-20 me. It was a bit of an ego trip I guess, because most things would probably have impressed the kindergarden me, but it did give me encouragement when I needed it.
I think the 5 year old me would think that the 20 year old me is very cool. :proud: I'm trying not to let him down.

No university? So why on earth am I studying 23 hours a day??? And no babies? Seriously, don't want any??? How does that work, my whole body wants a baby!

I don't honestly think I would be suprised at becoming Catholic, the changeover was so smooth and easy for me that I don't think I would have worried.

Mary Magdalene

16 year old me:
What do you mean your becoming a nun? You wanted to get married and have more than 6 kids. You did what, a Masters in Philosophy. But you hated thinking about deeply about things before. Why would you put yourself through extra study after your undergrad degree. What your entering in a convent in the US? You hate the american accent. You used to hate all things american. You said that you could never live in that country. Now you want to live there!? I thought you were going to move to the UK or South Africa to teach once you finished your teching degree. Remember, you wanted to marry a pom and raise your kids in the UK so they would have an English accent and not an aussie one.

I totally would have thought "you are just the role model I've been looking for. I want to learn a lot from you and emulate you. I want your joy and spirituality. I want to be your friend."

I've come more into my own now; I was quite lost in my early years.

LOL I forgot about this thread. I wish I could tell the twenty something version of myself to stop being a frivolous ninny and stop spending so much money on stupid stuff and put it in the bank instead. :(

More importantly, I'd tell the 16 year old version of myself not to despair in love, and that the woman he was pining for did exist.

How did you meet a guy from Wisconsin? But mom won't... she did!? Don't major in Math, but it's fun? Mrs. Langan would be so proud! Yeah I still want to be a youth minister! IOWA!!! You're nuts! I hate corn and flat! I guess a theology degree would be nice... but Math is so practical...

No not every Catholic guy I know can become a priest! Oh that's right I'm married then... He wanted to be a priest!? Is this some sort of plague on my part? Yeah priests are a good thing...

I think that is what mine would say too. I still haven't finished college. I'm still working on my 2-year degree after 9 years.

I couldn't nail down a major at all. Now I'm like 99% sure that I want to major in a field of psychology--most definitively social work and/or counseling. I am really interested in becoming a career counselor so I can help people like me who are struggling to figure out what they are meant to do for the rest of their lives. :)
