As a Yankee, I'm terrified for you guys.

One of my oldest 'net friends is in Katy, outside of Houston, and will be staying. Please pray.
Your friends in Katy will be fine (unless they're in a mobile home). The folks outside of the mandatory evac zones have been asked to stay so they don't clog up the roads for those who are in the mandatory evac zones. (Some idiots in Galveston decided to stay because of bad memories from the Rita evacuation.)
hmm, I read that they moved about 5,000 prisoners to jails farther inland.
Whew!
my mom just told me about how Galveston is doing. :ohno:
I am so glad that I enjoyed the beach earlier this week! I spent 2 hours playing beach volleyball after work on Tuesday. My dog and I took a long walk along the seawall before I went to work on Wednesday.

It might be weeks before I can even return to see what might be left of my home...

We are getting some serious rain in Shreveport, LA right now. This isn't even part of the actual hurricane. Hoping Micah gets here soon to pick me up from work because the streets where the Church is located flood very quickly even with minimal rain.

not able? did he dial 311? it might not be too late! Ike is still over 100 miles away!

Well here we go. Really good wind, but only a trace of rain so far. What struck me was seeing the bayou's running backwards.
