...and now they say it will head towards us.

The university has decided to lock down campus tomorrow afternoon and close on Friday. So much for the work I had planned... safety first!

yeah we might leave tonight, :( :idontknow: if not maybe tomorrow morning. It almost took me 2 hours to get home because I take the same roads as the evacuation roads but lucky, I was able to exit and take the longer route home free of any traffic. So congested. Pray that all of us traveling are safe and that we get to where we need to go to get away from the storm. And of course, so there is not much damage afterwards. (Its projecting a Cat 4 right before it gets really close.) >:( :(

I have an aunt and uncle living in different cities and they're both in the direct path of the storm. I'm worried because I don't think they're able to leave. :sadwalk:

They'll be fine if they're not in a storm surge area. I'm heading to Sugar Land, which is south of Houston.

I really don't like how close it's getting to the LA state line, not that I wish it to hit more into Texas. But seriously our entire state is still recovering from flooding from Gustav. Micah and I are in Northwest LA and we could get a ton of stuff from Ike because we will be on the eastern side of the storm. I went through Rita three years ago which Ike is acting a whole lot like. It wasn't pleasant. 70 mph winds and tons and tons of rain, no electricity, no water, etc.

:smokey: Well i work for the local school district here in Schertz, and Weiderstein Elementry is going to be used as a shelter if needed. Many of the larger communities around San Antonio like mine may take evacuees in if necessary.
Don't know really which way it's coming yet, I haven't checked.
Don't want 70 mph winds. Got two trees close to the house. Do have home owners insurance though. I'm praying it doesn't come close to us here.

wunderground.com weatherblog quotes the advisory:
All neighborhoods... and possibly entire coastal communities... will be inundated during high tide. Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single family one or two story homes will face certain death. Many residences of average construction directly on the coast will be destroyed. Widespread and devastating personal property damage is likely elsewhere. Vehicles left behind will likely be swept away. Numerous roads will be swamped... some may be washed away by the water. Entire flood prone coastal communities will be cutoff. Water levels may exceed 9 feet for more than a mile inland. Coastal residents in multi-story facilities risk being cutoff. Conditions will be worsened by battering waves. Such waves will exacerbate property damage... with massive destruction of homes... including those of block construction. Damage from beach erosion could take years to repair.
